Regional Safety Lead – Heavy Civil & Mission Critical Construction
Location: Midwest Region | Initial Project: Sycamore, Indiana
Employment Type: Full-Time
Travel: Regional Travel Required
Lead Safety Where the Work Happens
Gregory Construction is seeking an experienced Regional Safety Lead to provide hands-on safety leadership for our growing portfolio of heavy civil and mission-critical projects throughout the Midwest.
This is a field-focused leadership position, not a desk-based safety role. The Regional Safety Lead will initially support a project in Sycamore, Indiana, while providing leadership and oversight across Midwest projects as our work continues to grow.
Gregory Construction self-performs mass earthwork, grading, excavation, underground wet and dry utilities, duct banks, concrete, and related site development on large-scale mission-critical and data center projects.
We are looking for someone who understands this type of work, can build credibility with field teams, and is comfortable holding employees and leadership accountable while remaining a strong partner to Operations.
What You'll Do
Lead safety performance and provide field-focused safety oversight across assigned Midwest projects.
Maintain a strong presence in the field and partner closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, craft employees, and project leadership.
Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing execution of Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs).
Conduct and oversee jobsite inspections, audits, hazard assessments, observations, and corrective actions.
Review upcoming work with field leadership to identify hazards and establish controls before work begins.
Provide safety leadership for high-risk heavy civil activities including excavation and trenching, underground utilities, heavy equipment operations, lifting and rigging, fall protection, confined spaces, and concrete operations.
Lead incident, injury, near-miss, and property-damage investigations, including root-cause analysis and corrective-action follow-through.
Review and support JHAs/JSAs, THAs, pre-task planning, toolbox talks, and other field safety activities.
Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, Gregory Construction policies, client requirements, and project-specific safety standards.
Coach, mentor, and provide technical guidance to Safety Technicians and other project safety personnel.
Identify safety trends across projects and work with leadership to implement proactive solutions and consistent expectations.
Partner directly with clients, general contractors, subcontractors, and project teams on safety planning and performance.
Support safety orientations, training, and continued field education.
Exercise and reinforce Stop Work Authority when conditions or activities present an immediate risk.
Travel between Midwest projects and transition to future project assignments as operational needs change.
What You Need
5+ years of construction safety experience required.
3+ years of direct data center or mission-critical construction safety experience required.
Strong experience in heavy civil construction, underground utilities, civil infrastructure, site development, or similar self-perform construction operations.
Experience with excavation, trenching, wet and/or dry utilities, heavy equipment, concrete, and other high-risk civil construction activities.
OSHA 510 required.
CHST or equivalent professional safety certification OR a bachelor's degree in Safety, Occupational Safety & Health, EHS, or a related safety discipline required.
OSHA 30 required.
Experience with SSSPs, JHAs/JSAs, pre-task planning, incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
Previous experience leading, coaching, or mentoring safety professionals strongly preferred.
Strong working knowledge of OSHA construction standards.
Ability to communicate effectively with craft professionals, field leadership, project management, and client representatives.
Ability to address unsafe conditions and hold others accountable in a professional and respectful manner.
Ability and willingness to travel throughout the Midwest as project needs change.
The Background We're Looking For
The strongest candidate will come from an environment similar to Gregory Construction: heavy civil, underground infrastructure, utilities, concrete, and large-scale mission-critical/data center construction.
You should be comfortable walking an active jobsite, understanding how the work is actually being performed, recognizing risk before an incident occurs, and working directly with Operations to determine the safest and most practical way to execute the work.
We're looking for a safety leader, not simply someone who manages compliance and documentation. The right person can earn the respect of field crews, coach less-experienced safety professionals, communicate effectively with clients, and confidently step in when expectations are not being met.
Travel & Work Environment
This position will initially be assigned to a project in Sycamore, Indiana and will support Gregory Construction's Midwest operations as project needs evolve.
Candidates should expect significant time in active field environments, regular outdoor work in varying weather conditions, and exposure to excavation, heavy equipment, underground utilities, concrete operations, uneven terrain, and changing jobsite conditions.
Candidates must be able to walk active construction sites for extended periods and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
This position requires flexibility to travel and transition between Midwest projects. Candidates seeking a primarily office-based or low-travel safety position will not be the best fit.
What Success Looks Like
Successful Safety Leads at Gregory Construction are visible, approachable, and actively engaged in the field. They don't simply identify problems after the fact—they work alongside Operations to recognize hazards early, plan work safely, and prevent incidents before they occur.
The right individual will build credibility with field crews and leadership, develop the safety professionals around them, communicate expectations clearly, and hold teams accountable while maintaining strong working relationships.
What We Offer
Gregory Construction offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, including:
Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications.
Health and dental insurance.
401(k) with company match.
Paid Time Off (PTO).
Company-supported travel accommodations for eligible project assignments.
Opportunities for continued training, certifications, professional development, and career advancement.

Regional Lead Jobs in Indiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a regional lead in Indiana?
Most regional lead roles in Indiana require a bachelor's degree in business, operations, sales, or a related field, along with several years of progressive team or territory management experience. The role carries no state-issued license in Indiana. Employers typically promote from senior individual contributor or team lead positions, so building a record in account management, field sales, or operations supervision at an Indiana company is the most direct path.
Which companies hire regional leads in Indiana?
Companies currently hiring regional leads in Indiana include DoorDash, Kimley-Horn, and Purdue University, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of October 2026. Indiana's concentration of logistics, life sciences, and advanced manufacturing employers means openings appear consistently across both corporate headquarters and regional distribution hubs throughout the state.
Which Indiana cities have the most regional lead jobs?
Indianapolis, Goshen, and Sullivan have the most regional lead openings in Indiana. Indianapolis drives the largest share because of its density of corporate headquarters, healthcare systems, and distribution centers, while Fort Wayne and South Bend generate consistent openings through their manufacturing and logistics base and the anchor employers clustered in those metros.
Are there remote regional lead jobs in Indiana?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based roles, since regional leads are typically expected to visit accounts, manage field staff, or oversee physical locations. About 100% of regional lead openings tied to Indiana are remote or hybrid as of October 2026, with the remote share concentrated in sales-focused and analytical territory roles where travel is self-directed rather than daily.
How can I get hired as a regional lead in Indiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a regional lead role from a senior individual contributor position such as account executive, territory sales rep, or operations supervisor at an Indiana employer. Large Indiana-based companies like Cummins and Eli Lilly run rotational leadership development programs that place high-performing individual contributors into multi-site oversight roles. Building a portfolio of measurable outcomes in a named territory, even at a smaller Indiana company, carries significant weight with hiring managers evaluating first-time regional leads.
Where can I find and apply to regional lead jobs in Indiana?
You can find and apply to regional lead jobs in Indiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Indiana openings updated regularly. Search for roles by city or specialty, find the ones that match your background, and apply directly through each listing without any additional steps.
