The Role
Aircraft Carrier Machinery Engineering, Department E24, is seeking a highly motivated Engineering Manager 2 to lead the Advanced Weapons Elevator (AWE) team. Additional systems may be added over time. In this role, you will lead a team of about 15 Engineers, but are expected to be a proactive leader across Engineering, Program, Construction, and Supply Chain. AWE requires a proactive manager willing to work within and outside normal Engineering boundaries to achieve mission objectives to deliver quality Aircraft Carriers on schedule.
The ideal candidate will have the following:
- Background in machinery design. Concept and Analysis.
- Naval Shipboard Shock Design experience.
- Design for manufacturing experience.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Nice to Have
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous CVN 78 Class machinery design experience.
- Shipbuilding design, manufacturing and construction.
- Working understanding of the Navy organizational structure including SOS, NAVSEA, Tycom, and Ships Crew.
- Engineering and Programmatic working experience.
- Cross discipline leadership to manage mechanical, electrical and software system integration.
- Software Experience: Inventor, FEMAP, Matlab and MS Office Tools.
