Relationship Banker Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a relationship banker in New York?
Most relationship banker roles in New York require a bachelor's degree in finance, business, or economics, though some community banks and credit unions hire candidates with an associate degree and relevant experience. New York does not require a state-issued banking license for the role, but most employers expect candidates to obtain FINRA Series 6 and Series 63 registrations, which are administered through FINRA and require employer sponsorship. Starting as a teller or personal banker associate is the most common entry path at large New York institutions.
Which companies hire relationship bankers in New York?
Employers hiring relationship bankers in New York right now include Bank of America and JPMorganChase, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense concentration of national bank headquarters, regional institutions, and community development financial institutions makes it one of the broadest hiring markets for this role in the country.
Which New York cities have the most relationship banker jobs?
New York, Great Neck, and Hewlett have the most relationship banker openings in New York. New York City dominates due to its concentration of national bank headquarters, private wealth management firms, and commercial lending offices, while Buffalo and Albany support steady hiring through regional banks, credit unions, and community banking institutions serving upstate business and consumer markets.
Are there remote relationship banker jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of relationship banker openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the fact that most relationship banking work centers on in-person client meetings and branch operations. The portions of the role most likely to offer remote or hybrid flexibility are outbound business development and portfolio management for established commercial or small business clients.
How can I get hired as a relationship banker in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a bank teller or personal banker associate role, which large New York employers like JPMorgan Chase, Citibank, and M&T Bank use as structured pipelines into relationship banking. Many of these institutions run formal associate development programs in New York that include rotations across retail, small business, and lending departments. Earning a FINRA Series 6 registration, even before you are hired, signals commitment and gives candidates a concrete edge in the New York applicant pool.
