Tips for Your Remote Accountant Job Search
Apply early to remote roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists remote accountant openings from across the U.S. in one place, so you can find roles that match your experience and apply directly. Remote positions close faster than on-site roles, so acting on a strong match the same day it posts matters.
Show your cloud accounting platform proficiency
Remote employers want accountants who already know QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, Xero, or similar cloud platforms and need no ramp time. List the platforms you use daily and the specific workflows you own, such as month-end close, AP reconciliation, or financial reporting.
Prove you can communicate asynchronously
Remote accounting teams rely on written communication across time zones instead of quick desk check-ins. Write your cover letter and any application questions with the same precision you bring to a financial report, because remote hiring managers treat written communication as a live sample of your work style.
Highlight remote work in your work history
If you've worked remotely before, call it out explicitly in your resume for each relevant role. Remote employers weight prior distributed work experience heavily because it signals you can manage your close schedule, flag issues proactively, and meet deadlines without in-person oversight.
Remote Accountant Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote accountant job?
Target companies that already run distributed finance teams, such as remote-first SaaS firms, accounting service providers, and multi-state organizations with no central office. Remote employers screen for self-directed work habits, clear written communication, and proficiency in cloud accounting platforms like QuickBooks Online and NetSuite. Candidates who demonstrate async collaboration and month-end close experience without hand-holding consistently stand out.
Which companies hire remote accountants?
Companies hiring remote accountants right now include Wipfli, Orbiss, and FutureSight, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Remote-first firms, distributed professional services companies, and multi-state businesses that need accounting support across time zones are among the most consistent hirers of accountants in fully remote roles.
Can you get a remote accountant job with no experience?
Yes, but remote entry-level accountant roles are harder to land because employers expect you to work independently from day one without in-office mentorship. Smaller remote-first companies and accounting services firms are the most likely to hire entry-level candidates. Showing proficiency in cloud accounting software, completing a bookkeeping certification, or building a portfolio through freelance work all open doors when direct experience is limited.
Do you need a degree for remote accountant jobs?
Not always. Many remote employers prioritize demonstrated skills over formal credentials for non-CPA accounting roles. Proficiency in platforms like QuickBooks, Xero, or NetSuite, combined with a record of accurate reconciliations, reporting, or close cycles, carries real weight. A degree matters more for senior or CPA-track roles, but bookkeeping and staff accountant positions at remote-first companies frequently accept relevant certifications and hands-on results.
Which industries hire the most remote accountants?
The sectors hiring the most remote accountants are Insurance, Law & Legal Services, and Accounting & Auditing, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. These industries tend to run distributed teams across multiple states, making remote accountants a practical fit for managing general ledger, payroll, and financial reporting without requiring a central office presence.
