This role serves as a trusted advisor, coach, and mentor to Regional Vice Presidents, Area Directors, and Center Directors. The Director strengthens leadership accountability, operational consistency, organizational capability, and overall business performance through a combination of executive-level advising, data-driven analysis, field engagement, and hands-on performance improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive operational assessments and root cause analyses to identify performance gaps, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Partner with field leaders to develop, implement, and sustain performance improvement plans with clearly defined goals, actions, owners, timelines, and measures of success.
- Coach and mentor Regional Vice Presidents, Area Directors, and Center Directors to strengthen leadership effectiveness, accountability, and operational performance.
- Analyze operational and financial data to identify trends, evaluate performance drivers, and translate findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
- Develop and communicate insights through executive reports, presentations, dashboards, scorecards, charts, and other visual tools.
- Drive improvement across key performance measures, including enrollment, retention, profitability, quality, safety, and compliance.
- Support the integration of newly acquired schools into the organization’s culture, systems, processes, operating standards, and performance expectations.

- Build strong relationships quickly and provide clear, candid, and constructive feedback at all levels of the organization.
- Partner with executive and functional leaders to ensure operational improvement efforts are aligned with organizational priorities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, operations, organizational leadership, early childhood education, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Previous Vice President-level operational leadership experience required, including direct accountability for multi-site operational performance across multiple markets or regions.
- Experience reporting directly to the highest-ranking executive of an organization—such as a CEO, President, or equivalent enterprise leader—required.
- Significant multi-site operational leadership experience; childcare, early childhood education, or experience in another highly regulated multi-site service environment strongly preferred.
- Strong business and financial acumen, with demonstrated ability to analyze data, identify performance drivers, and connect operational actions to financial results.
- Proven track record of successfully improving underperforming markets, regions, or multi-site operations.
- Demonstrated success coaching, developing, and influencing senior and field-based leaders.
- Strong executive presence, relationship-building skills, and ability to influence across all levels of an organization.
- Exceptional written, verbal, visual, and presentation communication skills.
- Experience with performance improvement, acquisition integration, organizational change, or continuous improvement preferred.
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly to centers, markets, and regional locations.
The ideal candidate is a strategic, hands-on operational leader who can quickly assess complex situations, identify underlying issues, build trust, and help leaders achieve measurable and sustainable improvements.
This individual must be comfortable moving between executive-level strategy, detailed data analysis, and center-level operational realities. The successful candidate balances coaching and support with clear accountability, communicates candidly and constructively, and helps create a culture of consistent execution, continuous improvement, and sustained performance excellence.

Tips for Your Remote Operational Excellence Manager Job Search

Include specific examples in your resume or portfolio of improvements you drove through written communication, virtual workshops, or async collaboration tools.
Find remote openings in one place
Migrate Mate lists remote operational excellence manager openings from companies across the U.S. in one place. Search current listings by role to find positions that match your experience and apply directly to the ones that fit.
Target distributed operations companies specifically
Companies with multi-site or fully remote operations have the clearest need for an off-site operational excellence manager. Look for employers in healthcare networks, SaaS, and logistics that explicitly mention distributed teams or multi-location operations in their postings.
Prepare for remote-specific interview questions
Remote hiring panels for operational excellence roles consistently ask how you manage stakeholder buy-in without being on-site and how you track improvement metrics across teams in different time zones. Prepare concrete examples that show measurable results achieved entirely through virtual collaboration.
Remote Operational Excellence Manager Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote operational excellence manager job?
Target companies that run distributed operations or remote-first teams, since those employers are most likely to trust an operational excellence manager working off-site. Remote hiring managers screen for self-direction, precise written communication, and experience documenting and scaling processes without in-person oversight. Candidates who can show they've led continuous improvement initiatives asynchronously, using tools like process mapping software or collaboration platforms, stand out from applicants with only on-site experience.
Which companies hire remote operational excellence managers?
Companies hiring remote operational excellence managers right now include Augmentis, AbbVie, and Astound, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Remote openings for this role tend to concentrate at remote-first technology firms, large healthcare organizations, and financial services companies that manage distributed teams and need operational rigor applied across multiple locations without a centralized office.
Can you get a remote operational excellence manager job with no experience?
Yes, but remote entry-level roles in this field are harder to land because employers expect you to drive process improvements independently from day one. Companies in SaaS, logistics, and business process outsourcing occasionally hire junior operational excellence roles remotely. Without direct experience, candidates can show process improvement projects, Lean or Six Sigma coursework, or demonstrated results from volunteer or academic work to open the door.
Do you need a degree for remote operational excellence manager jobs?
Not always. Remote employers weigh certifications like Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt, PMP, or demonstrated results from past continuous improvement work heavily alongside or instead of a degree. Candidates who can show measurable outcomes, such as reduced cycle times or streamlined workflows, often compete successfully with degreed applicants, especially at remote-first companies that evaluate candidates on deliverables rather than credentials alone.
Which industries hire the most remote operational excellence managers?
The sectors hiring the most remote operational excellence managers are Retail, Construction & Real Estate, and Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. These industries tend to run large distributed teams where standardizing processes across sites and time zones requires a dedicated operational excellence manager who can work and communicate effectively without being physically present.
