Job Description
BenIvy Education is seeking an experienced English tutor to teach academic reading and writing to middle school and early high school students (Grades 7–9).
The ideal candidate has a strong background in English Language Arts, extensive experience teaching academic writing, and the ability to develop structured, engaging lessons that significantly improve students' reading comprehension, critical thinking, and writing skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach small-group and one-on-one English reading and writing lessons.
- Develop structured weekly lesson plans and long-term curricula using established educational resources.
- Teach close reading, literary analysis, critical thinking, and evidence-based writing.
- Help students master paragraph organization, thesis development, argumentative writing, and multi-paragraph essays.
- Incorporate meaningful in-class writing, individualized feedback, and revision into every lesson.
- Assign and evaluate homework, track student progress, and provide regular performance reports.
- Differentiate instruction based on students' individual academic levels.
- Develop quizzes, assessments, and examinations to measure student improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in English, Education, Literature, or a related field preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience teaching English reading and writing to middle or high school students.
- Strong expertise in academic essay writing, literary analysis, and reading comprehension.
- Experience developing structured curricula, lesson plans, and teaching materials.
- Familiarity with U.S. Common Core English Language Arts standards and established curricula, such as EL Education and Odell Literacy, preferred.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to provide detailed, constructive writing feedback.
Interview Process
Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a teaching demonstration and an academic writing assessment to evaluate their instructional skills and subject knowledge.
Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
