Job Title: GenAI Platform Engineering Team Lead
Location: Remote
Project description
The GenAI Platform Engineering Team Lead is the hands-on engineering leader of the team that builds and operates the client's enterprise GenAI platform: the governed AI gateway, model integrations, retrieval services, and environments through which the bank’s AI workloads run. Leading a team of platform engineers (SE II/SE III) and buildout contractors, this player-coach role owns delivery of the platform roadmap, technical quality, and production operation — while remaining an individual contributor on the hardest problems. The role reports to the GenAI Services Director and partners daily with the GenAI Enablement team (governance, standards, intake, solution architecture) so that what the platform enforces matches what governance requires, with evidence produced natively.
Responsibilities
- Delivery & Technical Leadership
- Own delivery of the platform roadmap: gateway hardening and enforcement, model provider integrations, retrieval services, environment tiers, and observability hooks.
- Remain hands-on: design authority on platform architecture, code and design review, and direct contribution on critical-path components.
- Direct and review contractor buildout work; enforce documentation, testing, and capability-transfer discipline so knowledge lands in the team.
- Own production operation under the bank’s controlled-change and separation-of-duties model, including the AI production support rotation and incident management.
- Team Leadership & Partnership
- Lead, coach, and develop the platform engineering team (SE II/SE III); set the technical bar and grow engineers into track ownership.
- Manage priorities across platform buildout, use-case support, and vendor-delivered workstreams; re-sequence transparently when approval paths or dependencies stall.
- Partner with the Enablement team lead so governance standards, intake decisions, and platform enforcement operate as one system.
- Represent platform status, risks, and trade-offs to the Director and governance forums with evidence, not assertions.
Skills Must have
- Supervisory / Managerial Responsibilities
- Direct supervisory responsibility for the GenAI Platform Engineering team (FTE engineers and assigned contractors): hiring, coaching, performance, and work direction.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7 years’ technology experience including hands-on platform, cloud, or application engineering, with prior team leadership or technical lead experience; in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 11 years’ education and/or relevant experience.
- Hands-on Azure platform depth: API Management, Entra ID, Key Vault, Azure AI services including Azure AI Foundry, monitoring, and IaC (Terraform/Bicep) — with the judgment to keep the platform venue-agnostic as additional model providers and tools onboard.
- Hands-on GenAI experience: model integration, RAG patterns, and AI-assisted engineering workflows.
- Experience operating production platforms in a regulated, controlled-change environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead while contributing — a working manager, not an administrator.
Nice to have
- Financial services or other highly regulated industry experience; audit-evidence familiarity.
- Experience directing vendor/contractor delivery and enforcing capability transfer.
- Experience building a platform team from early stage.

Tips for Your Remote Team Lead Job Search
Apply early to remote roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists remote team lead openings from across the U.S. in one place, so you can find roles that match your background and apply directly. Remote postings at well-known companies fill fast, so applying in the first few days makes a real difference.
Prove async communication on your resume
Remote employers screen team lead candidates for written clarity before a single interview. Call out tools you have used for async management, Slack, Loom, Notion, or project trackers, and name specific outcomes you drove through written handoffs rather than in-person meetings.
Show remote people leadership concretely
Generic leadership bullets do not stand out for remote roles. Describe how you kept a distributed team aligned: the cadence you set for check-ins, how you handled performance conversations over video, and what accountability systems you put in place without a shared office.
Target remote-first companies deliberately
A company that added remote as an afterthought runs team lead roles very differently from one built distributed from the start. Remote-first firms have async-by-default cultures, documented processes, and infrastructure for remote managers, which makes the role more sustainable and the interview process more straightforward.
Remote Team Lead Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote team lead job?
Focus your search on remote-first companies and distributed teams, where leading without physical presence is built into how the organization operates. Remote employers screen hard for written communication, the ability to run async check-ins, and comfort giving feedback without face-to-face cues. Candidates who can show they have managed deliverables, resolved conflict, and kept a team aligned entirely through digital tools have a clear edge over those with only in-office experience.
Which companies hire remote team leads?
Companies hiring remote team leads right now include IQVIA, Reserv, and Sangoma, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Remote team lead roles tend to concentrate at remote-first software companies, distributed customer operations teams, and fintech and healthtech firms that have built fully virtual workforce structures.
Can you get a remote team lead job with no experience?
Yes, but remote entry-level team lead roles are harder to land because employers expect you to self-direct early with little in-person oversight. The strongest candidates without formal lead experience show evidence of informal leadership: mentoring a peer, running a project end to end, or owning an outcome on a distributed team. Starting as a senior individual contributor at a remote-first company is a practical way in.
Do you need a degree for remote team lead jobs?
Not always. Remote employers hiring team leads weigh demonstrated results and people leadership over academic credentials, particularly in technology, customer success, and operations. A clear history of hitting team goals, managing performance conversations, and keeping distributed contributors aligned matters more in most hiring decisions than the institution on your resume.
Which industries hire the most remote team leads?
Most remote team lead openings sit in Technology & Software, Construction & Real Estate, and Retail, per current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. These sectors hire team leads remotely because their core work is delivered digitally, which makes managing distributed contributors a natural fit for the role.
