Mid Level Research Assistant Professor Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level research assistant professor job?
Position yourself around demonstrated independence: highlight first-authored publications, grants you have led or co-led, and graduate students or research staff you have mentored. Tailor your research statement to the department's active priorities, and show a coherent scholarly agenda rather than a list of past projects. Strong letters from faculty who can speak to your autonomy as a researcher carry significant weight at this stage.
Which companies hire mid level research assistant professors?
Companies hiring mid level research assistant professors right now include Morgan State University, Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, and Tulane University, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. At this level, hiring comes from a mix of research universities, medical schools and academic medical centers, and government-affiliated research institutes seeking candidates with an established publication record and the capacity to attract external funding.
Are there remote mid level research assistant professor jobs?
Yes, though availability depends on the discipline and the nature of the research involved. About 0% of mid level research assistant professor openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with the strongest representation in computational fields, data-intensive research, and roles where laboratory access is not required. Hybrid arrangements are increasingly common at institutions with distributed research teams.
How do I move up to a mid level research assistant professor role?
Moving from early-career to mid level in this field means building a coherent, recognizable research identity over time. That typically involves accumulating first-authored publications in respected venues, securing at least one independent or co-investigator grant credit, and demonstrating consistent mentorship of junior researchers. Depth in a defined methodology or content area, paired with a record of collaboration, is what distinguishes mid level candidates from those just entering academic research.
Which industries hire the most mid level research assistant professors?
Mid Level research assistant professor roles concentrate in Education and Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive hiring because they sustain large research programs that require faculty who can operate independently, manage project teams, and contribute to the grant portfolios that fund ongoing scholarly work.
