Restaurant Operations Management Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a restaurant operations management in California?
Most California employers require a combination of progressive restaurant management experience and a food safety credential, typically the ServSafe Food Manager certification, which is recognized statewide. California does not issue a separate state license for restaurant managers, but employers in the state consistently expect this credential alongside experience in high-volume environments. A degree in hospitality management or business can strengthen applications, and many regional employers look for candidates who have managed teams under California-specific labor regulations.
How much do restaurant operations managements make in California?
Restaurant operations managements in California earn a median of about $78,260 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $47,690 for the lowest 10% to over $127,340 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire restaurant operations managements in California?
Employers hiring restaurant operations managements in California right now include KFC, Sweetgreen, and DoorDash, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's density of large hospitality groups, university dining programs, and corporate food service contracts makes it one of the most diverse hiring environments for this role in the country.
Which California cities have the most restaurant operations management jobs?
San Diego, Chula Vista, and El Cajon have the highest concentration of restaurant operations management openings in California. Los Angeles leads because of its sheer volume of full-service, fast-casual, and hotel dining concepts, while San Francisco's corporate dining and tourism sectors drive demand, and San Diego's resort corridor and growing food hall scene support a steady pipeline of multi-unit management roles.
Are there remote restaurant operations management jobs in California?
Yes, but they are rare. Restaurant operations management is an inherently on-site role, requiring physical presence across dining rooms, kitchens, and staff floors. About 0% of restaurant operations management openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in corporate support functions such as training, curriculum development, or regional compliance auditing rather than active unit management.
How can I get hired as a restaurant operations management in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as an assistant manager or shift lead at a high-volume California location and moving into a management development program. Large California operators such as Compass Group and Sodexo run structured manager-in-training programs open to candidates with limited formal management experience. Earning a ServSafe Food Manager certification before applying signals readiness, and lateral moves from front-of-house supervisor or kitchen manager roles are common stepping stones that California hiring managers recognize.
Where can I find and apply to restaurant operations management jobs in California?
You can find and apply to restaurant operations management jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Find the roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to each listing.
