Tips for Your Restaurant Job Search
Tailor your resume by service style
Fine dining, fast casual, and quick service employers read resumes differently. Highlight table turns and check averages for upscale roles, and throughput and upselling metrics for counter-service positions. Matching your language to the service style signals immediate fit.
List every certification you hold
ServSafe, TIPS, food handler cards, and alcohol seller permits vary by state but appear on nearly every restaurant job listing. Include the issuing body and expiration date so hiring managers can verify them at a glance without follow-up.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists restaurant openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter openings by kitchen station or concept
Search by specific terms like grill cook, expo, or sommelier rather than just restaurant. Concepts like farm-to-table, high-volume, or tasting menu narrow results faster and surface postings where your exact background is the stated preference.
Prepare a working interview the right way
Many restaurant employers offer a paid working interview or trail shift before extending an offer. Bring your own non-slip shoes, arrive five minutes early, and ask one specific question about the concept's service standards to show genuine preparation.
Negotiate your start date around training weeks
Restaurants typically run new-hire training in fixed weekly cycles tied to the schedule build. If you push your start date by just a few days to align with the next cycle, you avoid being dropped mid-training and get a full week of structured onboarding.
Restaurant Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most restaurant workers?
The companies hiring the most restaurant workers right now include Wendy's, KFC, and Panda Restaurant, with the largest share of openings in New York, California, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Openings shift frequently, so checking current listings gives you the most accurate picture.
How many restaurant jobs are remote?
About 1% of restaurant openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, which is low compared to most industries given the hands-on nature of the work. The sub-areas most likely to include remote or hybrid arrangements are corporate restaurant management, menu development consulting, and regional operations roles that involve travel between locations rather than a fixed site.
How do you become a restaurant worker?
Start by obtaining a food handler card or ServSafe certification, which most employers require before your first shift. Apply to entry-level positions like host, busser, or line prep cook to build foundational experience. From there, take on cross-training opportunities in different stations or service roles to develop the range that moves you into higher-paying or supervisory positions.
Can you get hired at a restaurant with little or no experience?
Yes, many restaurant roles including host, dishwasher, barback, and counter service crew are routinely filled by candidates with no prior experience. Emphasize reliability, a flexible schedule, and any customer-facing work you have done, even outside food service. Applying to high-volume or chain concepts gives you the best shot, since they run structured onboarding programs built for new hires.
What does the restaurant interview process look like?
Most restaurant interviews start with a brief phone screen from a manager, followed by an in-person meeting that covers your availability, experience, and how you handle busy rushes or difficult guests. Many employers then invite you to a working interview or trail shift so they can see you in action on the floor or in the kitchen before making a final offer.
Where can I find and apply to restaurant jobs?
You can find and apply to restaurant jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States in one place. Search for roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
