ABOUT THE TRANSPORTATION BUSINESS UNIT
At ms consultants, inc., we provide comprehensive transportation engineering services for projects of all sizes — from major interstate systems to local roads. Our services include roadway and intersection design, corridor improvements, bridge replacement and rehabilitation, and environmental documentation. Our expert team of engineers works closely together to deliver innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable transportation solutions that benefit communities and enhance infrastructure across the regions.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to design complex interstate geometrics and local road projects. Depending on your experience, you may also lead a design team, with both immediate and long-term growth potential. Key responsibilities include:
- Roadway Design: Take charge of the design and plan preparation for both highway and local road projects
- Quality Assurance: Lead internal quality reviews to ensure that plans meet the highest technical standards
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and feedback to junior engineers, helping them grow professionally
- Proposal Development: Assist in preparing and negotiating project fee proposals
- Project Scheduling and Budgeting: Prepare design schedules, construction cost estimates, and deliver staged project submittals on time and within budget
- Client Interaction: Build and maintain strong client relationships through presentations and regular communication
- Scope and Change Management: Recognize scope changes and assist with contract negotiations when necessary
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with a talented team of engineers, technicians, and administrative staff to successfully execute transportation projects
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for an experienced engineer who thrives in a collaborative environment and has the technical and leadership skills to drive success. The ideal candidate will have:
- BS in Engineering from an ABET-accredited College or University
- A Professional Engineer (PE) license in North Carolina is required, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months
- Proficiency in the design, preparation, and delivery of roadway design plans (NCDOT design experience preferred)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Familiarity with AASHTO, FHWA, and NCDOT standards
- Experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and AutoCAD
- Prior experience managing projects, including developing proposals and overseeing project timelines and budgets
- A background in mentoring or managing teams, with the ability to collaborate effectively and independently
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with clients and team members alike
