Security Program Manager Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security program manager in Hawaii?
Most security program managers in Hawaii begin with a bachelor's degree in information security, cybersecurity, or a related field, then build toward a CISSP or CISM certification, both of which are widely required by Hawaii defense and healthcare employers. Hawaii does not issue a state-specific license for this role, but DoD-connected positions require a federal security clearance processed through federal channels. Experience in a defense or government contractor environment gives candidates a strong edge in Hawaii's market.
Which companies hire security program managers in Hawaii?
Companies currently hiring security program managers in Hawaii include Booz Allen Hamilton, Bank of Hawaii, and Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hawaii's defense contractor community around Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and Camp Smith generates consistent demand beyond those names as well.
Which Hawaii cities have the most security program manager jobs?
Honolulu, Ford Island, and Kauai account for the largest concentration of security program manager openings in Hawaii. Honolulu dominates because it is home to the state's major federal installations, healthcare systems, and financial institutions, while Pearl Harbor and Kapolei draw significant volume from defense contractors and government agencies clustered near military commands and federal campuses on the Ewa Plain.
Are there remote security program manager jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely analytical tech roles because many Hawaii security program manager positions require on-site access to classified facilities or military installations. About 0% of security program manager openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the defense and government weighting of the market. Policy, compliance, and risk governance functions within the role are the most likely to allow remote or hybrid arrangements.
How can I get hired as a security program manager in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from an adjacent role such as IT systems administrator, compliance analyst, or physical security coordinator into a junior security program role with a Hawaii-based federal contractor. Booz Allen Hamilton, Leidos, and ManTech all run early-career and associate-level programs that recruit from University of Hawaii at Manoa and Hawaii Pacific University. Earning a CompTIA Security+ certification and pursuing a clearance-eligible position provides a concrete edge even without prior program management titles.
Where can I find and apply to security program manager jobs in Hawaii?
You can find and apply to security program manager jobs in Hawaii on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across Honolulu, Pearl Harbor, Kapolei, and the surrounding region. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and clearance level, and apply directly to the employer.
