Senior Control Engineer Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior control engineer in Florida?
The standard path is a bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or chemical engineering followed by several years in control systems roles before advancing to senior level. Florida does not mandate a specific control engineering license to work in industry, but many employers and government-adjacent projects prefer or require a Florida-licensed Professional Engineer, administered through the Florida Board of Professional Engineers. Gaining hands-on experience with PLC, SCADA, and DCS platforms is the most direct route to senior eligibility.
Which companies hire senior control engineers in Florida?
Employers hiring senior control engineers in Florida right now include Northrop Grumman, ASRC Federal, and Collins Aerospace, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Florida's aerospace, defense, and water utilities sectors drive consistent year-round demand, meaning hiring tends to be ongoing rather than seasonal.
Which Florida cities have the most senior control engineer jobs?
Orlando, Melbourne, and Tampa lead Florida for senior control engineer openings. Tampa's concentration of industrial manufacturing and utilities infrastructure anchors demand in the west, while the Space Coast around Melbourne and Cape Canaveral generates steady openings through aerospace and defense contractors, and Jacksonville's large naval and logistics base adds government and industrial system roles.
Are there remote senior control engineer jobs in Florida?
Yes, but they're rare. Control engineering is inherently hands-on, requiring on-site commissioning, hardware testing, and plant-floor troubleshooting that cannot be done remotely. About 22% of senior control engineer openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to be project management, system design review, or documentation-heavy phases of longer engagements rather than full-time remote positions.
How can I get hired as a senior control engineer in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is an associate or junior controls engineer role at a Florida industrial contractor or systems integrator, where hands-on PLC and SCADA work builds the practical skills employers require. Large Florida employers in aerospace and water utilities, including defense contractors on the Space Coast and municipal utility authorities around Tampa and Orlando, regularly hire entry-level engineers and place them in rotational programs. Earning a Certified Control Systems Technician credential from ISA while building project hours accelerates the path to senior-level candidacy.
Where can I find and apply to senior control engineer jobs in Florida?
You can find and apply to senior control engineer jobs in Florida on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find ones that match your background and location preference, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
