Senior Control Engineer Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior control engineer in New York?
The standard path begins with a bachelor's degree in electrical, chemical, or mechanical engineering, followed by several years of progressively responsible controls work. New York requires engineers who sign off on public or regulated systems to hold a Professional Engineer license issued by the New York State Education Department, which involves passing the Fundamentals of Engineering and Principles and Practice of Engineering exams. Candidates who build deep PLC, DCS, and SCADA experience in manufacturing or utility environments advance most reliably to senior roles in the state.
Which companies hire senior control engineers in New York?
Employers hiring senior control engineers in New York right now include WSP, CMCOM, and Menarini, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New York's combination of large utilities, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and defense contractors keeps demand for experienced controls professionals steady throughout the year.
Which New York cities have the most senior control engineer jobs?
New York, Rochester, and Hauppauge account for the most senior control engineer openings in New York. The New York City metro drives volume through its density of utilities, transit authorities, and pharmaceutical facilities, while Albany and Buffalo attract openings from energy companies, industrial manufacturers, and government infrastructure projects based in those regions.
Are there remote senior control engineer jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Control engineering is largely a hands-on discipline requiring physical access to equipment, control panels, and production floors, so fully remote positions represent a small share of the market. About 25% of senior control engineer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to cover design, specification writing, and project management phases rather than commissioning or site support.
How can I get hired as a senior control engineer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior or associate controls engineer role at a large New York industrial employer or engineering consultancy, where structured mentorship is common. Candidates with electrical or mechanical engineering degrees who have completed internships with New York utilities, pharmaceutical manufacturers, or transit authorities are competitive for these roles. Earning a Certified Automation Professional designation or building a portfolio of PLC and SCADA projects strengthens applications significantly, and lateral moves from instrumentation technician or field service engineer positions are a well-established route into the controls discipline.
Where can I find and apply to senior control engineer jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to senior control engineer jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find ones that match your background and location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
