Energy Consultant Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a energy consultant in New York?
Most energy consultants in New York enter the field with a bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, environmental science, or a related discipline. While New York does not issue a state license specifically for energy consultants, many roles require or strongly prefer credentials such as the Certified Energy Manager designation or a Professional Engineer license issued by the New York State Education Department. Building strong familiarity with NYSERDA program requirements and New York energy codes gives candidates a concrete edge.
Which companies hire energy consultants in New York?
Employers hiring energy consultants in New York right now include Venture Home, EY, and GE Vernova, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New York's strong utility sector and active state energy programs through NYSERDA also generate consistent demand at large consulting firms and engineering services companies with New York offices.
Which New York cities have the most energy consultant jobs?
The cities with the most energy consultant openings in New York are New York, Melville, and Tarrytown. New York City dominates because of its concentration of commercial real estate clients, utility headquarters, and sustainability-focused firms, while Albany draws consulting work tied directly to NYSERDA, state agency contracts, and energy policy implementation across upstate regions.
Are there remote energy consultant jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than many technical fields, since a meaningful share of energy consulting involves data analysis, modeling, and report writing that can be done off-site. About 80% of energy consultant openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, though roles requiring on-site energy audits or building inspections remain largely in-person. Strategy, program management, and policy advisory positions are the most consistently remote-eligible.
How can I get hired as a energy consultant in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an analyst or junior associate role at an engineering or environmental consulting firm, where project coordination and data support work builds foundational skills quickly. NYSERDA offers internship and fellowship programs that provide hands-on exposure to New York's energy programs for early-career candidates. Lateral moves from roles like facilities coordinator, sustainability analyst, or utility analyst at New York City agencies or large institutional employers are also common starting points. Pursuing a Certified Energy Auditor credential while job searching strengthens applications noticeably.
Where can I find and apply to energy consultant jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to energy consultant jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your background and location, and apply directly to the employer.
