Construction Administrator Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a construction administrator in New York?
Most construction administrator roles in New York require a bachelor's degree in architecture, construction management, or engineering, along with field experience on commercial or institutional projects. Architects practicing in New York must hold licensure through the New York State Education Department, which requires passing the Architect Registration Examination. For non-licensed construction administrators, employers typically look for demonstrated site experience, familiarity with New York City DOB processes, and credentials such as the Construction Documents Technologist or LEED accreditation.
How much do construction administrators make in New York?
Construction administrators in New York earn a median of about $155,360 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $86,250 for the lowest 10% to over $244,590 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire construction administrators in New York?
Employers hiring construction administrators in New York right now include Project Management Advisors, Inc. (PMA), R.A.M.S. Mechanical, and Bassett Healthcare Network, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's volume of large-scale public, institutional, and mixed-use projects means both major national firms and regional architecture and construction management companies maintain consistent hiring throughout the year.
Which New York cities have the most construction administrator jobs?
New York, Brooklyn, and Buffalo have the most construction administrator openings in New York. New York City dominates the distribution given its continuous pipeline of commercial towers, transit infrastructure, and institutional projects, while Buffalo and Albany see steady demand tied to state-funded capital projects, university expansion, and regional development initiatives that require on-site construction oversight.
Are there remote construction administrator jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of construction administrator openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the fundamentally site-dependent nature of the role. The portions of the work most suited to remote arrangements are submittal reviews, RFI responses, and project documentation, while site observation, punch list walkthroughs, and contractor coordination almost always require an in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a construction administrator in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a project coordinator or assistant construction administrator role at a mid-size New York architecture or construction management firm, where you can build site experience alongside licensed staff. Firms like Turner Construction and large New York City-based architecture practices regularly hire recent graduates into administrative support roles that rotate through field assignments. Completing a Construction Documents Technologist credential or contributing to a strong internship portfolio from an accredited New York program gives candidates a meaningful edge over other applicants without direct experience.
Where can I find and apply to construction administrator jobs in New York?
