Jackson leads because it is home to the state government's central IT infrastructure, major regional banks, and large healthcare systems, while surrounding communities like Ridgeland and Madison draw additional openings from corporate offices and managed service providers that serve the metro area.

The most realistic starting point is an entry-level helpdesk or IT technician role at a Mississippi state agency, a regional healthcare system like UMMC or Ochsner Health in Mississippi, or a managed service provider in the Jackson metro. From those positions, candidates move up by earning CompTIA certifications, taking on escalated tickets, and volunteering for project work.
