Server Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a server in Texas?
The concrete first step for working as a server in Texas is completing a Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission approved seller-server training course, which certifies you to serve alcohol and is required or strongly preferred by most employers. No state-issued food handler license is mandated statewide, though many Texas counties and cities require a food handler certificate from an accredited provider. Beyond certification, most Texas employers hire based on availability, customer service aptitude, and willingness to learn their specific concept.
Which companies hire servers in Texas?
Employers hiring servers in Texas right now include SMS InfoComm Corporation, Qualcomm, and Hyatt, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large convention hotel corridors in Houston and San Antonio and the dense restaurant districts in Dallas consistently keep these and similar employers recruiting throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most server jobs?
Austin, Grapevine, and Dallas are the Texas cities with the most server openings, driven by the size of their restaurant and hospitality industries. Houston and Dallas lead on volume because of their large metro populations and convention activity, while San Antonio's tourism economy and River Walk dining corridor sustain demand independently of corporate dining trends.
Are there remote server jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Serving is fundamentally an in-person, table-side role, so the overwhelming majority of positions require on-site presence in a restaurant, hotel, or event venue. About 2% of server openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those exceptions tend to be in corporate dining coordination or catering sales support rather than traditional floor service.
How can I get hired as a server in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a busser, food runner, or host role at a full-service Texas restaurant, then requesting cross-training once you have floor familiarity. Large Texas casual dining operators, including Darden-affiliated concepts and Landry's properties, regularly move internal candidates into server roles. Completing your Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission seller-server certification before you apply signals readiness and removes a common onboarding barrier, giving you a clear edge over uncertified applicants.
Where can I find and apply to server jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to server jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings. Find the roles that fit your availability, experience, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that interest you.
