Service Advisor Jobs in South Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a service advisor in South Dakota?
Most service advisor positions in South Dakota are filled through on-the-job training at a dealership or equipment company, with no state-issued license required for the role itself. Employers typically look for a high school diploma or equivalent, and many prefer candidates with a post-secondary certificate in automotive technology from Southeast Technical College or Lake Area Technical College. Earning an ASE Service Consultant certification strengthens your candidacy and is frequently listed as a preferred qualification.
Which companies hire service advisors in South Dakota?
South Dakota service advisor roles are posted by CENTRAL DIESEL SALES, Butler Machinery Company, and McKie Ford and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Which South Dakota cities have the most service advisor jobs?
Rapid City, Sioux Falls, and Pierre account for the largest share of service advisor openings in South Dakota. Sioux Falls drives the highest volume as the state's largest metro with the densest concentration of franchise dealerships, while Rapid City supports strong demand from both automotive retailers and heavy equipment operations serving the Black Hills region, and smaller markets reflect the agricultural machinery and fleet service needs of surrounding rural communities.
How can I get hired as a service advisor in South Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a parts counter or service lane porter position at a South Dakota dealership, which puts you inside the operation and visible to service managers. Billion Auto Group and Vern Eide locations in Sioux Falls and Rapid City regularly hire for these support roles and promote from within. Completing an automotive technology program at Southeast Technical College or Lake Area Technical College gives you a direct credential to reference in applications, and obtaining your South Dakota driver's license with a clean record is a baseline requirement most employers check first.
