Social Work Assistant Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a social work assistant in Utah?
Most employers in Utah require at least an associate degree in social work, human services, or psychology, with a bachelor's degree preferred for positions in child welfare or behavioral health. While Utah does not mandate a standalone social work assistant license, many employers require candidates to hold or be eligible for registration through the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing. Volunteering with agencies like the Utah Department of Human Services or completing a supervised field practicum strengthens your application considerably.
Which companies hire social work assistants in Utah?
Utah social work assistant roles are posted by University of Utah, Utah case management, and Weber State University and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of October 2026. Utah's large integrated health systems, county human services departments, and nonprofit behavioral health providers are among the most consistent sources of openings across the state.
Which Utah cities have the most social work assistant jobs?
Salt Lake City, Ogden, and Draper have the most social work assistant openings in Utah. Salt Lake City dominates because it anchors the state's largest hospital systems, county social services offices, and nonprofit networks, while Provo and Ogden generate openings through their own regional medical centers, university-affiliated programs, and growing behavioral health providers serving surrounding communities.
Are there remote social work assistant jobs in Utah?
Yes, but they're rare. Social work assistant roles typically require in-person contact with clients, home visits, and on-site coordination with case managers, which limits remote availability. About 75% of social work assistant openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of October 2026, with most of those positions focused on phone-based case coordination or administrative documentation support rather than direct client services.
How can I get hired as a social work assistant in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to support technician or human services aide roles within Utah's county departments of workforce services or the Utah Division of Child and Family Services, which regularly post positions that accept candidates with no prior professional experience. Intermountain Health and Valley Behavioral Health also hire entry-level behavioral health technicians who work alongside licensed social workers. Completing a field practicum during an associate or bachelor's program, or earning a Utah-recognized human services certification, gives candidates a measurable edge over applicants without credentials.
Where can I find and apply to social work assistant jobs in Utah?
