Social Worker Jobs in Brooklyn: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a social worker job in Brooklyn?
Focus your search on Brooklyn's dominant hiring sectors: public child welfare agencies, federally qualified health centers, and community-based nonprofits concentrated in neighborhoods like Bushwick, Crown Heights, and Red Hook. Candidates who have experience with trauma-informed care, bilingual skills in Spanish or Haitian Creole, or familiarity with NYC's Human Resources Administration systems stand out. Applying directly to Brooklyn-based organizations rather than citywide systems speeds up the process.
Which companies hire social workers in Brooklyn?
Employers hiring social workers in Brooklyn right now include Samaritan Daytop Village, Nao Medical, and Maimonides Medical Center, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Brooklyn's hiring landscape leans heavily on hospital systems, community health networks, and nonprofit social services agencies rooted in specific neighborhoods.
Are there remote social worker jobs in Brooklyn?
Yes, but with limits, social work is largely an in-person field due to client visits, court appearances, and on-site care coordination. About 12% of social worker openings tied to Brooklyn are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, covering roles such as telehealth counseling, case management coordination, and policy or administrative positions that do not require direct field work.
How can I get a social worker job in Brooklyn with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Brooklyn is through field placement at a community-based organization or hospital system, which frequently converts to a paid role. Brooklyn-based nonprofits, school-based mental health programs within NYC public schools, and residential facilities for youth often hire case aides or social work assistants as stepping stones. Demonstrating knowledge of Brooklyn's specific communities and any volunteer experience with local organizations gives candidates a concrete edge.
Which industries hire the most social workers in Brooklyn?
Brooklyn social worker roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services, Education, and Non-Profit & Social Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Brooklyn's dense population, large public hospital network, and extensive nonprofit infrastructure across neighborhoods like East New York and Brownsville sustain particularly high and consistent demand in these sectors.
