Software Quality Engineer Jobs in Nebraska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a software quality engineer in Nebraska?
A bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or information technology is the standard starting point for software quality engineer roles in Nebraska, and no state-issued license is required. Most Nebraska employers expect candidates to demonstrate hands-on testing experience, either through internships, academic projects, or prior QA roles. Earning vendor-neutral certifications such as ISTQB Foundation Level strengthens an application considerably, particularly at the large financial and insurance technology employers concentrated in Omaha and Lincoln.
How much do software quality engineers make in Nebraska?
Software quality engineers in Nebraska earn a median of about $98,010 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $64,750 for the lowest 10% to over $131,490 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire software quality engineers in Nebraska?
Nebraska software quality engineer roles are posted by Celerion, Tenneco, and Kiewit Corporation and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Nebraska's concentration of insurance, financial services, and logistics technology companies means steady QA demand well beyond the best-known names.
Which Nebraska cities have the most software quality engineer jobs?
Omaha, Lincoln, and Seward account for the most software quality engineer openings in Nebraska. Omaha drives the largest share because of its dense cluster of financial services, insurance technology, and logistics software employers, while Lincoln's state government technology offices and university-affiliated tech sector support a consistent second tier of openings.
Are there remote software quality engineer jobs in Nebraska?
Yes, and more than most fields, since software quality engineering is largely desk and tool-based work that translates well to remote environments. About 18% of software quality engineer openings tied to Nebraska are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how broadly distributed QA teams have become. Test automation and performance testing roles tend to be the most remote-eligible, while roles requiring access to physical hardware or on-site lab environments are more likely to require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a software quality engineer in Nebraska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an associate QA analyst or junior tester role, which Nebraska's larger financial technology and insurance software employers post regularly for candidates coming directly from a computer science or information technology degree program. Companies like Mutual of Omaha and Union Pacific run structured new-graduate hiring cycles that include QA and software testing tracks. Building a portfolio of automated test scripts on a public code repository, paired with ISTQB Foundation Level certification, gives a candidate a concrete edge over peers without work history.
Where can I find and apply to software quality engineer jobs in Nebraska?
You can find and apply to software quality engineer jobs in Nebraska on Migrate Mate, which lists current Nebraska openings from employers across Omaha, Lincoln, and the broader state. Find roles that fit your experience and specialization and apply directly to the ones that match.
