Developer Jobs in Nebraska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a developer in Nebraska?
Most developer roles in Nebraska require a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, though some employers accept equivalent bootcamp training or an associate degree paired with a strong portfolio. Nebraska does not require a state-issued license to work as a software developer. Employers in Omaha and Lincoln typically prioritize demonstrated project experience, so maintaining a public code repository and completing relevant certifications in cloud or security technologies strengthens a candidate's application considerably.
How much do developers make in Nebraska?
Developers in Nebraska earn a median of about $110,900 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,520 for the lowest 10% to over $158,720 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire developers in Nebraska?
Nebraska developer roles are posted by FMNE Insurance Company, Saicon, and Creighton University and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Nebraska's deep concentration of insurance carriers, financial institutions, and logistics companies means many of the largest engineering teams in the state are embedded inside established corporate headquarters rather than standalone tech firms.
Which Nebraska cities have the most developer jobs?
Omaha, Lincoln, and Elkhorn have the most developer openings in Nebraska. Omaha dominates because it is home to major insurance, financial services, and logistics headquarters that maintain large in-house engineering departments, while Lincoln's concentration of state government agencies, university technology offices, and regional healthcare systems drives consistent hiring in the capital.
Are there remote developer jobs in Nebraska?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 31% of developer openings tied to Nebraska are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how readily software development translates to distributed work. Backend, full-stack, and cloud engineering roles are the most likely to be listed as fully remote, while roles requiring close collaboration with on-site infrastructure or hardware teams tend to require at least a hybrid schedule.
How can I get hired as a developer in Nebraska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a junior developer or associate software engineer role through one of the technology rotational or new-grad programs that large Nebraska employers run each year. Companies with sizable Omaha engineering offices regularly bring in recent graduates from the University of Nebraska and Creighton University. Building a portfolio on a public repository, completing an AWS or Azure associate certification, and applying to QA engineer or technical support roles as a lateral entry point are all concrete steps that Nebraska hiring managers respond to.
Where can I find and apply to developer jobs in Nebraska?
You can find and apply to developer jobs in Nebraska on Migrate Mate, which lists current Nebraska openings from employers across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
