The qualifications that appear most often in speech therapist jobs.
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program
- Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from ASHA
- State licensure in speech-language pathology in the state of employment

Tips for Your Speech Therapist Job Search
List your ASHA certification front and center
Recruiters screen speech therapist resumes for the Certificate of Clinical Competence before reading anything else. Put your CCC-SLP designation directly after your name in the header so it's impossible to miss and clears the first filter instantly.
Tailor your resume to the setting
A school-based speech therapist resume should highlight IEP documentation and caseload size, while a hospital-based one needs dysphagia management and instrumental assessment front and center. One generic resume loses to a setting-specific one every time.
Filter openings by caseload type, not just title
Job titles for this role vary wildly across employers. Search by population served, such as pediatric, adult, or geriatric, and by setting, such as acute care or early intervention, to surface relevant openings that a title-only search would miss.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists speech therapist openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare a clinical scenario for your interview
Interviewers frequently ask you to walk through assessment and treatment planning for a specific case, such as a late-talking toddler or a post-stroke adult with aphasia. Practice a structured SOAP-note-style response out loud before your interview.
Negotiate your CFY supervision structure upfront
If you're a new graduate entering a Clinical Fellowship Year, the supervision model varies by employer and directly affects your path to the CCC-SLP. Ask about supervision hours, feedback frequency, and whether the supervisor is on-site before you accept an offer.
Speech Therapist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most speech therapists?
The companies hiring the most speech therapists right now include Ivyrehab Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy & Speech-Language Pathology, Pllc, Fox Rehabilitation Physical, Occupational And Speech Therapy Services, and Fox Rehabilitation Physical, Occupational And Speech Therapy Services, L.L.C., with the largest share of openings in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Virginia, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is consistently high in both school district and hospital system postings.
How many speech therapist jobs are remote?
About 1% of speech therapist openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting growth in teletherapy platforms. School-based and early intervention roles have seen the highest share of remote and hybrid options, while acute care and inpatient hospital positions remain almost entirely in-person.
How do you become a speech therapist?
You become a speech therapist by earning a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from a program accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation. After graduating, you complete a Clinical Fellowship Year under a certified supervisor, pass the Praxis examination in Speech-Language Pathology, and obtain your CCC-SLP from ASHA. You also need a state license, which requires a separate application in the state where you plan to practice.
Can you get hired as a speech therapist with little experience?
Yes, new graduates regularly get hired into Clinical Fellowship Year positions, which are structured entry-level roles designed for candidates without post-degree experience. Schools, early intervention programs, and outpatient pediatric clinics are the most CFY-accessible settings. Highlighting your graduate clinical hours by population served and documenting any externship experience in your target setting strengthens your application significantly.
What does the speech therapist interview process look like?
The interview process typically starts with a phone screen from HR or a clinical coordinator, followed by a structured interview with a supervising SLP or department manager. Expect scenario-based questions requiring you to describe assessment and treatment planning for a specific client profile. Some employers, particularly school districts, add a practical component such as reviewing a sample IEP or demonstrating a therapy activity.
Where can I find and apply to speech therapist jobs?
You can find and apply to speech therapist jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States in one place. Search by setting, location, or caseload type to narrow down the roles that fit your background, then apply directly to each listing that matches what you're looking for.
