You must obtain a New York State license in speech-language pathology through the State Education Department's Office of the Professions, which requires a master's degree in speech-language pathology, completion of a supervised clinical fellowship, and a passing score on the Praxis exam in Speech-Language Pathology. After licensure, most New York employers also expect ASHA's CCC-SLP credential. Applications are submitted through the New York State Education Department's online licensing portal.
How much do speech therapists make in New York?
Speech therapists in New York earn a median of about $100,610 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $64,980 for the lowest 10% to over $157,920 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire speech therapists in New York?
Employers hiring speech therapists in New York right now include Ivyrehab Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy & Speech-Language Pathology, Pllc, Fox Rehabilitation Physical, Occupational And Speech Therapy Services, and Fox Rehabilitation Physical, Occupational And Speech Therapy Services, L.L.C., based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Which New York cities have the most speech therapist jobs?
The cities with the most speech therapist openings in New York are Brooklyn, Brewster, and Island Park. New York City dominates the distribution given the density of hospital systems, school districts, and private practice groups concentrated there, while smaller metros like Buffalo and Albany draw volume from regional medical centers and county-run early intervention programs serving surrounding communities.
Are there remote speech therapist jobs in New York?
Yes, but they represent a smaller share of openings because most speech therapy work is hands-on and delivered in person. About 0% of speech therapist openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026. Teletherapy roles do exist and tend to focus on school-based services, adult articulation or fluency programs, and certain early intervention cases where the provider and family connect via secure video platform.
How can I get hired as a speech therapist in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a clinical fellowship position, which is a structured supervised year that counts toward full licensure and is widely available at New York City-area hospital systems such as Northwell Health and NewYork-Presbyterian as well as the New York City Department of Education. Candidates who have completed their graduate practicum hours, hold a New York provisional license, and have experience with pediatric populations or early intervention settings are competitive for these roles even without independent post-graduation experience.
