Sr Software Development Manager Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sr software development manager in Utah?
The typical path in Utah starts with several years as a software engineer, followed by a lead or staff engineer role before moving into management. Utah does not require a state-issued license for software development managers. Most hiring managers in the Silicon Slopes corridor expect a bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering plus experience managing engineers directly. Earning a PMP or Scrum certification strengthens candidates competing for sr-level roles at Utah's larger tech employers.
Which companies hire sr software development managers in Utah?
Employers hiring sr software development managers in Utah right now include CVS Health, Adobe, and Solventum, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Utah's Silicon Slopes concentration means that both established tech firms and fast-growing SaaS companies regularly post sr-level engineering management openings in the Salt Lake City and Provo metro areas.
Which Utah cities have the most sr software development manager jobs?
Utah, Lehi, and Murray hold the most sr software development manager openings in Utah. Salt Lake City and Lehi dominate because of the high density of enterprise software, fintech, and cloud companies headquartered in the Silicon Slopes corridor, while Provo draws significant demand from the university-adjacent tech community and employers tied to Brigham Young University's large computer science pipeline.
Are there remote sr software development manager jobs in Utah?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 100% of sr software development manager openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based and highly digital nature of engineering leadership work. The parts of the role most commonly done remotely are code reviews, sprint planning, one-on-ones, and roadmap planning, while in-person expectations tend to apply during onboarding and major planning cycles.
How can I get hired as a sr software development manager in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a senior software engineer or tech lead role into a first-time engineering manager position at a mid-size Utah tech company, then building toward the sr level. Adobe, Qualtrics, and other Silicon Slopes employers run new-manager development programs that promote from within. Lateral moves from program manager or product manager roles are also common. A strong GitHub portfolio, a PMP or Certified Scrum Master credential, and experience presenting technical roadmaps give candidates a concrete edge in Utah interviews.
Where can I find and apply to sr software development manager jobs in Utah?
