Sr Software Development Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sr software development manager in Texas?
The standard path into a sr software development manager role in Texas begins with several years as a software engineer, followed by a move into a team lead or engineering manager position. Texas does not require a state-issued license for software management roles. Most Texas employers expect a computer science or software engineering degree and demonstrated experience shipping products end to end. Large Texas tech employers often promote internally from senior engineer or engineering manager levels, making internal mobility a common route.
Which companies hire sr software development managers in Texas?
Employers hiring sr software development managers in Texas right now include AECOM, Arcadis, and GHD, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's deep concentration of enterprise technology, defense contracting, and financial services firms means demand comes from both established Fortune 500 companies and fast-growing regional tech companies across Austin, Dallas, and Houston.
Which Texas cities have the most sr software development manager jobs?
Dallas, Austin, and Houston have the most sr software development manager openings in Texas. Austin's concentration of tech company headquarters and R&D centers drives the highest volume, while Dallas's large enterprise technology and financial services sector and Houston's energy technology and defense industries generate strong and consistent demand across all three metros.
Are there remote sr software development manager jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields, since software development management is largely a desk and coordination role that lends itself well to distributed team structures. About 20% of sr software development manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how broadly this has been adopted in the industry. Strategic planning, one-on-ones, and roadmap work are the functions most commonly performed fully remotely.
How can I get hired as a sr software development manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a senior software engineer role into a team lead or tech lead position within a Texas company, then transitioning into a formal engineering manager role over one to two years. Large Texas employers like Dell Technologies, Texas Instruments, and AT&T often hire engineering leads who grow into sr software development manager roles through internal promotion tracks. Building a record of mentoring junior engineers, owning delivery cycles, and driving technical decisions makes the strongest case for first-time managers.
Where can I find and apply to sr software development manager jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to sr software development manager jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across Austin, Dallas, Houston, and other Texas markets. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match.
