Sr Software Development Manager Jobs in Georgia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sr software development manager in Georgia?
Most sr software development managers in Georgia progress from individual contributor software engineering roles into team lead or engineering manager positions before reaching the senior level. Georgia does not require a state-issued license for this role, but employers consistently expect a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, several years of hands-on development experience, and a demonstrated record of managing engineering teams. Georgia's concentration of fintech, healthcare IT, and defense technology companies means candidates who align their background to one of those verticals tend to move faster through the pipeline.
Which companies hire sr software development managers in Georgia?
Employers hiring sr software development managers in Georgia right now include CVS Health, Landis+Gyr, and ACI Worldwide, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Georgia's mix of Fortune 500 headquarters, major financial technology firms, and defense contractors creates consistent year-round demand at this level.
Which Georgia cities have the most sr software development manager jobs?
Atlanta, Norcross, and Alpharetta are the cities with the most sr software development manager openings in Georgia. Atlanta drives the largest share of demand as home to major corporate headquarters and a dense fintech and healthcare IT ecosystem, while Alpharetta and Marietta attract openings from large enterprise software campuses and defense technology contractors operating along the northern metro corridor.
Are there remote sr software development manager jobs in Georgia?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 50% of sr software development manager openings tied to Georgia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the desk-based, collaborative nature of engineering leadership work. Strategic planning, code reviews, architecture discussions, and team one-on-ones all transfer well to distributed formats, making this one of the more remote-accessible senior leadership roles in the Georgia market.
How can I get hired as a sr software development manager in Georgia with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is moving into a tech lead or engineering manager role first, typically within a mid-size Georgia technology company or a large employer like a hospital system or financial services firm that runs structured internal promotion tracks. Candidates without formal management experience should build a portfolio of team leadership through open-source contributions, internal project ownership, or leading small squads on contract engagements. Georgia's fintech corridor in Alpharetta and the health IT ecosystem around Emory and Piedmont Healthcare regularly bring on associate engineering managers and promote from within, making those employer types a practical starting point.
Where can I find and apply to sr software development manager jobs in Georgia?
You can find and apply to sr software development manager jobs in Georgia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Georgia openings updated regularly. Search the listings for roles that match your background and apply directly to the ones that fit.
