Verify your CIP code before applying
Check that your degree's Classification of Instructional Programs code maps to an approved STEM field before submitting your extension application. Electrical Engineering (14.1001) and Computer Engineering (14.0901) are the most common qualifying codes for this role, but your DSO confirms the match.
Filter job listings by E-Verify status
Use Migrate Mate to search Senior Electronics Engineer openings filtered to E-Verify enrolled employers, so you don't waste time pursuing roles at companies that can't legally sign your I-983 training plan.
Target defense and aerospace contractors early
Many Senior Electronics Engineer roles at defense primes require security clearances that take months to initiate. Apply to these positions in your first year of OPT so clearance timelines don't conflict with your extension window or eventual H-1B transition.
Draft your I-983 training plan before the offer stage
Prepare a draft I-983 that maps your proposed engineering responsibilities to specific learning objectives before you receive an offer. Employers unfamiliar with STEM OPT paperwork move faster when you arrive with a near-complete training plan ready for their signature.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer
Ask your HR contact to provide the company's E-Verify employer ID or confirm active enrollment status directly. USCIS requires your employer to be enrolled before your DSO can authorize the extension, so verify this before you sign, not after.
Benchmark your offer against OFLC Wage Search data
Look up the prevailing wage for your job title and work location using the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating. Senior Electronics Engineers in Level III and IV wage bands represent the typical experience range, and knowing the DOL benchmark strengthens your negotiating position.

Find Senior Electronics Engineer JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does my electronics engineering degree qualify me for the STEM OPT extension?
Your degree qualifies if it appears on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List, which is organized by CIP code. Electrical Engineering (14.1001), Computer Engineering (14.0901), and Applied Physics (40.0801) are common qualifying codes for Senior Electronics Engineer roles. Your DSO confirms eligibility by matching your transcript to the approved list before filing your extension.
What E-Verify requirement applies to STEM OPT employers hiring for this role?
Your employer must be actively enrolled in E-Verify before your DSO can approve your STEM OPT extension. Enrollment at the company level is not enough if your specific work location or hiring entity is separate. Ask HR to confirm the E-Verify employer ID for the exact legal entity that will employ you, since large electronics firms often have multiple subsidiaries with separate enrollment status.
What should my I-983 training plan include for a Senior Electronics Engineer position?
Your I-983 must connect specific job duties to concrete learning objectives tied to your STEM degree. For a Senior Electronics Engineer, this typically means mapping tasks like PCB design review, EMC testing, or firmware validation to electrical engineering competencies from your coursework. USCIS requires both you and a supervisor with hiring authority to sign the form, and your employer must evaluate your progress every six months.
How does cap-gap protection apply if I'm on STEM OPT and my H-1B is selected in the lottery?
If your STEM OPT authorization expires between April 1 and October 1 of the H-1B cap year, cap-gap automatically extends your work authorization until October 1 so there's no gap in employment. Your employer doesn't need to take any action to trigger this extension. USCIS issues a cap-gap notice, and you can continue working in your Senior Electronics Engineer role without interruption while the H-1B petition is pending.
Where can I find Senior Electronics Engineer jobs at E-Verify enrolled employers?
Migrate Mate lists Senior Electronics Engineer openings filtered to employers enrolled in E-Verify, so every role you see meets the baseline STEM OPT requirement before you apply. You can search by location, industry sector, and experience level to find positions where your 36-month authorization window and electrical engineering background are explicitly welcomed.
