Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization in Servicenow Solution Architect
Verify your CIP code before applying
Check that your STEM degree's CIP code appears on the DHS STEM OPT designated degree list. Computer Science, Information Systems, and Systems Engineering codes are commonly accepted for Solution Architect roles, but confirm yours with your DSO before your OPT end date.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Ask the recruiter to confirm their E-Verify company ID during the offer stage, not after signing. Employers not enrolled in E-Verify cannot legally hire STEM OPT students for the extension period, and switching employers mid-authorization creates a gap risk.
Build your I-983 training plan around architecture deliverables
Work with your hiring manager to document specific technical training goals, such as platform design reviews, implementation milestones, and stakeholder architecture sessions. Generic job descriptions get flagged by DSOs; tie each goal to a measurable outcome within the 24-month period.
Target enterprise tech employers with existing ServiceNow contracts
Companies with active ServiceNow licensing agreements have ongoing demand for Solution Architects and are more likely to have structured STEM OPT onboarding. Filter Migrate Mate's employer listings to find companies with documented I-983 filing history and active enterprise software practices.
Apply the OFLC Wage Search to benchmark your offer
STEM OPT training plans require that your compensation equals what a similarly situated U.S. worker earns. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up prevailing wage levels for Solution Architect roles in your metro area before negotiating, and keep documentation on file for your I-983 review.
File your STEM OPT extension 90 days before OPT expires
USCIS requires that your STEM OPT extension application be filed while your initial OPT EAD is still valid. Missing this window means your employment authorization lapses, even if the job offer stands. Submit through your DSO at least 90 days ahead of your EAD end date.

Find Servicenow Solution Architect JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a ServiceNow Solution Architect role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Yes, if your degree is in a DHS-designated STEM field such as Computer Science, Information Systems, or Systems Engineering, and the role requires applying that technical knowledge directly. Solution Architect positions that involve platform architecture, systems integration, and enterprise software design typically meet the practical training requirement. Confirm eligibility with your DSO using your specific CIP code.
How does the E-Verify requirement affect my job search for this role?
Your employer must be actively enrolled in E-Verify before your STEM OPT extension is approved. If you accept an offer from a non-enrolled employer, you cannot legally begin or continue work under the extension. Before signing any offer letter, ask the recruiter for the company's E-Verify employer ID and verify enrollment status directly through the E-Verify program. Use Migrate Mate to find Solution Architect roles at employers already confirmed for STEM OPT hiring.
What goes into an I-983 training plan for a Solution Architect position?
The I-983 must describe how the role provides practical training directly related to your STEM degree. For Solution Architects, this includes documenting specific technical goals such as designing ServiceNow platform architectures, leading implementation projects, and developing integration frameworks. The plan needs sign-off from both you and an authorized employer representative, and must be updated every 12 months or whenever your role changes materially.
What happens to my work authorization if my H-1B petition is filed before my STEM OPT expires?
If your employer files an H-1B petition on your behalf before your STEM OPT EAD expires and it is accepted for processing by USCIS, cap-gap protection extends your OPT work authorization automatically through September 30 of that fiscal year. You do not need a new EAD to keep working during this period. USCIS guidance confirms this protection applies as long as your underlying F-1 status remains valid.
Can I switch employers during my STEM OPT extension as a Solution Architect?
Yes, but you must follow a specific process. Your new employer must be enrolled in E-Verify, and you must submit a new I-983 training plan through your DSO within ten days of starting the new position. There is a built-in grace period of up to 60 days between jobs while on STEM OPT. Notify your DSO immediately when you separate from your current employer to avoid any unauthorized status issues.
