Summary
The Department of Medicine is seeking a versatile and highly motivated Business Operations Associate to support multiple academic and clinical divisions in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. This role is ideal for a proactive professional who enjoys variety in their work and thrives at the intersection of analytics, finance, operations, and strategic projects. Working closely with faculty and administrative leaders, the Business Operations Associate will help solve complex business challenges, develop data-driven insights, support research and financial operations, and contribute to initiatives that drive growth and operational excellence across the department. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain broad exposure to academic medicine while partnering with leaders on high-impact projects that advance the department's clinical, research, and educational missions.
Job Duties
- Develops, maintains, and distributes recurring operational dashboards and reports related to clinical productivity, faculty performance, and key program performance indicators.
- Monitors and reports revenue cycle performance metrics, including charge capture, coding trends, and reimbursement trends.
- Collaborates with operational leaders to identify performance improvement opportunities and provide data-driven recommendations.
- Prepares ad hoc analyses and executive summaries for departmental leadership, division administrators, and section chiefs.
- Supports post-award grant administration by monitoring project expenditures, effort allocations, salary distributions, and budget compliance.
- Prepares grant financial reports and assist faculty and administrators with project financial management.
- Assists with grant closeout activities, financial reconciliations, and resolution of outstanding balances.
- Partners with research administration personnel and principal investigators to provide financial guidance and reporting throughout the grant lifecycle.
- Supports the evaluation, development, and implementation of new clinical, academic, and research program initiatives.
- Prepares growth proposals and supporting documentation for departmental and external stakeholders.
- Partners with operational and faculty leaders to assess capacity, resource requirements, and financial implications of expansion opportunities.
- Develops presentations, executive reports, and recommendations for leadership decision-making.
- Participates in special projects related to division growth, operational efficiency, and strategic priorities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Two years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters Degree.
- Prior experience in an academic medical center or higher education environment, preferably within a Department of Medicine or similar clinical/research setting.
- Excel skills (pivot tables, financial modeling, variance analysis).
- Proven ability to work independently.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to advise faculty, leadership, and external sponsors.
