Shepperd Construction is looking for an experienced Superintendent to lead field operations on commercial reconstruction, restoration, multifamily, building-envelope, and specialty construction projects.

Our Superintendents are responsible for the day-to-day execution of the project in the field. That means leading subcontractors, maintaining the schedule, coordinating inspections, enforcing quality and safety standards, documenting progress, and making sure the work is completed correctly the first time.

What you’ll do

• Lead daily field operations from mobilization through punch and final closeout.
• Manage subcontractors, sequencing, manpower, deliveries, inspections, access, and daily production.
• Partner closely with the Project Manager to maintain the project schedule and keep field and office operations aligned.
• Develop and maintain short-term planning, including two-week look-aheads and upcoming manpower, material, and inspection needs.
• Conduct daily planning with subcontractors and clearly communicate expectations for scope, schedule, quality, and safety.
• Identify schedule risks, manpower shortages, material delays, and field conflicts before they impact the project.
• Review plans, specifications, details, scopes of work, RFIs, and submittals before work begins.
• Verify that work is installed in accordance with plans, specifications, manufacturer requirements, approved details, and Shepperd quality standards.
• Coordinate required inspections and hold points before work is covered or the project moves into the next phase.
• Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and professional jobsite.
• Manage construction activity on occupied properties with particular attention to resident access, communication, cleanliness, security, and minimizing disruption.
• Lead subcontractor coordination meetings and hold trade partners accountable for commitments.
• Document daily progress, manpower, weather, deliveries, inspections, quality issues, safety observations, delays, and important field events.
• Maintain accurate project information in Autodesk Build.
• Coordinate punch-list work and drive timely completion of outstanding items.
• Communicate field issues clearly and quickly to the Project Manager and project team.

What you bring

• Proven construction superintendent or field leadership experience.
• Experience managing commercial construction, reconstruction, multifamily, restoration, building-envelope, or similarly complex projects.
• Strong ability to read and understand construction plans, specifications, details, scopes of work, and manufacturer requirements.
• Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors and managing project sequencing.
• Strong understanding of field quality control, inspections, and construction best practices.
• Ability to recognize incomplete, deficient, or nonconforming work and drive corrective action.
• Strong working knowledge of jobsite safety and subcontractor accountability.
• Ability to build and manage short-term schedules and look-ahead plans.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lead people, set clear expectations, and have difficult conversations when commitments are not met.
• Strong organization, follow-through, and attention to detail.
• Comfortable using construction-management technology and completing daily project documentation.
• A valid driver’s license and ability to travel to assigned project sites.

Experience with Autodesk Build, occupied multifamily properties, building-envelope repairs, waterproofing, stucco, siding, roofing, structural reconstruction, invasive testing, or construction-defect repairs is a plus.

• Stop deficient work and correct it before moving forward.
• Maintain accurate and timely daily reports.
• Keep the site safe, clean, organized, and professional.
• Hold subcontractors accountable for schedule, quality, safety, and commitments.
• Protect occupied properties and respect residents, tenants, and clients.
• Bring problems forward early and help develop solutions.
• Follow through on commitments.

Quality matters

At Shepperd, details matter.

Waterproofing, flashing, framing, sheathing, weather barriers, roofing, structural connections, manufacturer requirements, and required inspections cannot be treated as minor details.

A missed inspection or incorrectly installed detail can result in significant rework, schedule impact, and cost.

Our Superintendents are expected to understand the work, verify it, document it, and make sure critical construction is correct before it is covered.

Project Manager + Superintendent

The Project Manager and Superintendent operate as one project leadership team.

The Superintendent owns field execution. The Project Manager owns the broader project-management process.

Both are responsible for communicating continuously and making sure the client, field team, subcontractors, and company leadership are working from the same information.

The office and field should never be operating from two different versions of the project.
