Surgical Dental Assistant Jobs in Montana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a surgical dental assistant in Montana?
To become a surgical dental assistant in Montana, you must register with the Montana Board of Dentistry, which oversees dental assistant credentialing in the state. Most employers require completion of an accredited dental assisting program along with a passed radiation safety exam recognized by the board. Surgical roles additionally expect chairside experience in oral surgery settings, and many candidates build that through externship placements or entry-level general dental assistant positions before moving into surgical specialties.
Which companies hire surgical dental assistants in Montana?
Companies currently hiring surgical dental assistants in Montana include Aspen Dental, Dental Metrics Maven, and Ivey Dental, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Montana's larger integrated health systems and specialty oral surgery practices tend to offer the most consistent openings across the state.
Which Montana cities have the most surgical dental assistant jobs?
Billings, Missoula, and Helena account for the most surgical dental assistant openings in Montana. Billings leads as the state's largest city and home to major health systems like Billings Clinic, while Missoula's university-affiliated providers and Great Falls' regional medical facilities drive steady demand in those markets.
Are there remote surgical dental assistant jobs in Montana?
Yes, but they're rare. Surgical dental assisting is a hands-on clinical role that requires direct patient contact, surgical instrument handling, and chairside support, none of which translate to remote work. About 0% of surgical dental assistant openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those listings typically cover administrative or coordinator functions adjacent to the clinical role rather than the surgical assistant position itself.
How can I get hired as a surgical dental assistant in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing an accredited dental assisting program and registering with the Montana Board of Dentistry, then applying to general dental assistant roles at larger Montana health systems like Billings Clinic or Logan Health, which periodically recruit new graduates for supported clinical positions. Externship placements during training are the most direct way to gain exposure to oral surgery environments. Candidates who hold current radiation safety certification and CPR credentials stand out in Montana entry-level applicant pools, and moving from a general chair position into a surgical support role within the same practice is a common transition.
Where can I find and apply to surgical dental assistant jobs in Montana?
