PeaceHealth Riverbend Annex in Springfield, OR is seeking a Technical Specialist - Microbiology for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Day position. The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $41.21 – $61.81. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.
Job Summary
Provides specialized clinical laboratory services, technical support and research and development activities. Performs medical technologist duties as required.
What you will do:
- Performs duties as technical expert by: providing technical support to technologists for all instruments; providing technical support to providers, caregivers and clients; develops and performs validation protocols for all new tests and instruments; performs competency evaluation for assigned positions; provides training on new equipment and new test procedures.
- Ensures preventative maintenance is performed on a regular schedule; reviews and prepares daily quality control and quality assurance reports on a regular schedule for submission to laboratory leadership; monitors cost and efficiency of established procedures and makes improvement recommendations to leadership; completes College of American Pathologists (CAP), and other State inspection checklists and ensuring compliance with standards.
- Ensures current theory and technique skills by: maintaining an in-depth knowledge and instrumentation theory and methodology in order to enhance problem-solving abilities and continually improve the quality of services offered; engaging in independent and/or cooperative research and development of clinical and/or pathology services.
- May perform CAP (College of American Pathologists) compliance duties to include: periodic record reviews; equipment and test validation; development and maintenance of policy, procedure and guidance documents; proficiency testing and competency management; CAP inspection preparation, assessment and follow up; and technical and procedural advisement and referral as delegated by Laboratory Medical Director.
- Performs the duties found in the medical technologist or histotechnologist job profile as it relates to tests and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
- Bachelor's Degree Required: Biological Science or
- Bachelor's Degree Required: Clinical Laboratory Science or
- Bachelor's Degree Required: Medical Technology or
- Bachelor's Degree Required: Chemical Science or
- Associate of Science Required: Medical Laboratory Technology or
- Associate of Science Required: Clinical Laboratory Science
Experience
- Preferred: Experience in Microbiology
- Minimum of 4 years Required: Experience meeting minimum CLIA and CAP requirements for a technical supervisor: with BS or AS degree or
- Minimum of 2 years Required: Experience meeting minimum CLIA and CAP requirements for a technical supervisor: with MS degree or
- Minimum of 1 year Required: Experience meeting minimum CLIA and CAP requirements for a technical supervisor: with PhD in science degree
Credentials
- Required: Medical Technologist - Medical Laboratory Scientist ASCP certification and
- Preferred: Technical Specialist Certification ASCP Specialist certification in area of expertise or
Skills
- Prefer: Experience including test implementation, regulatory responsibilities, and/or writing technical procedures.
