Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as an Administrative Assistant
Verify your degree matches the role
TN visa classification for Administrative Assistant positions requires a bachelor's degree in a field directly related to the duties. A general business administration degree typically qualifies, but a degree in an unrelated field raises officer scrutiny at the border.
Target employers already using E-Verify
Employers enrolled in E-Verify are operationally familiar with employment authorization verification, which means fewer internal hurdles when you raise TN sponsorship during the offer stage.
Ask for a detailed offer letter early
Your TN documentation depends on a letter from your employer describing your specific duties, your degree, and the connection between them. Request this letter before your border appointment or consular interview, not after.
Search TN-specific listings through Migrate Mate
Standard job boards don't filter by visa sponsorship type. Use Migrate Mate to find Administrative Assistant roles where employers are already open to TN sponsorship, cutting out employers who won't engage.
Prepare for Canadian port-of-entry processing
As a Canadian citizen, you can apply for TN status directly at a U.S. land border or airport. Bring your offer letter, degree transcripts, and resume. CBP officers adjudicate on the spot, so documentation gaps cause immediate denial.
Understand employer letter requirements before negotiating start dates
Your employer will need to prepare a support letter documenting your job role, qualifications, and salary. For Canadian citizens, you'll present this letter at the U.S. border or port of entry during your TN admission process. For Mexican citizens, your employer submits the letter to the U.S. consulate as part of your visa application. Plan for consular processing timelines if applicable, and coordinate your start date accordingly to avoid gaps.
Administrative Assistant TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Administrative Assistant role qualify for TN visa status?
It can, but not automatically. The TN visa requires that the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree in a specific professional discipline. If the job description accepts any degree field or lists a degree as preferred rather than required, a CBP officer or consular officer may determine the role doesn't meet the specialty occupation standard under USMCA.
How does TN visa sponsorship for Administrative Assistants compare to H-1B?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, so qualified candidates can start work as soon as CBP approves the application at the port of entry. H-1B visa requires an April lottery, a months-long wait, and significant employer filing costs. For Administrative Assistant roles that clearly require a degree, TN is a faster and less expensive path, provided the employer is willing to document the specialty nature of the position.
Where can I find Administrative Assistant jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most general job boards don't let you filter by TN visa sponsorship specifically. Migrate Mate is built for Canadian and Mexican professionals looking for roles where employers are already open to TN status, which saves you from applying to positions where sponsorship will be declined at the offer stage.
What documents does my employer need to provide for my TN application?
Your employer must provide a detailed support letter on company letterhead that describes your specific job duties, confirms the position requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, states your offered wage, and confirms the temporary nature of the role. Canadian applicants present this letter at the border alongside their degree credentials and resume. Mexican nationals submit it as part of their consular appointment package.
Can Mexican nationals get TN sponsorship for Administrative Assistant roles the same way Canadians can?
The qualification standard is the same, but the process differs significantly. Mexican nationals cannot apply at the port of entry and must attend a visa interview at a U.S. consulate in Mexico. They also face a limited annual TN allocation, unlike Canadian citizens who have no numerical cap. Processing times at consular posts vary, so Mexican professionals should plan for a longer lead time between receiving a job offer and starting work.
