Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesiologist (CAA/CRNA) - Pediatric (Inpatient) | Department of Anesthesiology | Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology

Position Summary:

The Medical College of Wisconsin’s Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology is seeking a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CAA/CRNA). This position is located in Milwaukee, WI at the Children's Wisconsin hospital campus. This role will work with a medically directed team involving faculty anesthesiologists, anesthesiology fellows, residents and advanced practice certified nurse anesthetists and CAAs. The successful candidate must possess the ability to provide high quality anesthesia care to a complex patient population, working directly under the supervision of our Adult Anesthesiologists and as part of a team of highly trained and dedicated team of CAAs and certified nurse anesthetists.

Position Highlights:

• Function as a CAA/CRNA under the medical direction of a pediatric anesthesiologist.
• Administer general and local anesthesia.
• Maintain anesthesia delivery systems and monitors, including testing and calibration.
• Prepare patients to be effectively monitored.
• Monitor patients under anesthesia.
• Make recommendations regarding anesthetic care plans.
• Perform post-procedure tests on patients to ensure that they are recovering well.
• Responsible for the operation of anesthesia equipment to monitor patients while delivering direct anesthesia care.
• Provide direct patient care before, during and after anesthesia to ensure continuity of care and quality.
• Obtain complete patient medical histories, conducting physical exams, and pre-procedure interviews.
• Review the complete patient medical history to confirm its authenticity with the patient/family to ensure it is accurate with the physical exams and pre-procedure interviews.
• Administer/order required diagnostic and laboratory tests.
• Work with Anesthesiologists to determine the next step of prep for the procedures and begin the stages of prepping the patient for the procedure.
• Employ CPR or other emergency procedures as indicated.
• Perform various administrative duties that might involve collecting medical records, conducting patient chart reviews, and following up with patients/families pre or post procedures.

The Medical College of Wisconsin Department of Anesthesiology was formed in 1965. Since its inception the department has experienced robust clinical, scientific, and academic growth; and has been consistently recognized on regional, national and international levels for leadership and innovation. The Department of Anesthesiology has a team of 140 Anesthesiologists, 46 Certified Anesthesiologist Assistants, 65 Certified Registered Nursing Anesthetists, 21 Advanced Practice Professionals, and 86 Residents and Fellows. We provide more than 63,000 anesthetics annually, in more than 100 anesthetizing locations our operating rooms and out-of-operating room locations in our five hospitals and four surgery centers.

Our well-established research division utilizes both clinical and preclinical research approaches to generate critical new knowledge and advance anesthesia care delivery.

Qualifications

Preferred Experience:

• Previous CAA/CRNA experience in Adult Anesthesiology or Adult Health Care experience a plus!

Minimum Education:

• CAA: Master’s of Science in Anesthesiology
• CRNA: Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing

Certification:

• Candidates can be either a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant or Certified Nurse Anesthetists.
• AHA BCLS and/or ACLS required.
• Board eligible for certification are also encouraged to apply.

Licensure:

• Unrestricted Wisconsin licensure or eligible.
• AHA BCLS and/or ACLS.

Children’s and its joint venture with the Medical College of Wisconsin – the Children’s Specialty Group (CSG) - are the largest providers of pediatric healthcare in the state, serving the children and families of Wisconsin with the highest level of care through their American College of Surgeons Level I Children’s Surgery Verification Center, Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence, 72-bed Level IV NICU, Level IV Epilepsy Center, and a 72-bed PICU. In 2021-2022, CW and CSG had six specialties ranked by US News & World Report: cancer; cardiology and heart surgery; gastroenterology and GI surgery; neurology and neurosurgery; orthopedics; and pulmonology. With over 70 specialties and 675 providers, CSG providers had 220,000 outpatient visits at 13 regional care sites, 67,000 emergency department/trauma center visits, and over 9,000 admissions.
