Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Business Development Manager
Align your credentials to TN categories
Business Development Manager roles must fit the Management Consultant or Economist TN visa category. Review your degree field and actual job duties against CBP's category definitions before applying, because a title mismatch at the port of entry triggers immediate issues.
Target employers with cross-border hiring history
Focus your search on companies with recent visa filings that demonstrate experience with sponsorship processes. These employers already understand work visa requirements and won't need convincing that supporting international hires is manageable for business development roles.
Search TN-sponsor roles using Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Business Development Manager openings by TN visa sponsorship availability, so you're not manually sorting through listings that will reject your status. Start your search there before reaching out to recruiters or HR teams.
Prepare a support letter before offer stage
Draft a TN support letter template with your prospective employer's legal team before you have a firm offer. The letter must detail the consulting or analytical nature of your specific duties, not just restate your title, to satisfy CBP's specialty occupation standard.
Negotiate employer-paid filing costs upfront
TN petitions filed via USCIS Form I-129 carry government fees that vary by employer size and premium processing election. Raise cost allocation during offer negotiation, not after signing, so there's no ambiguity about who covers filing and legal preparation expenses.
Use Canadian port of entry for faster admission
Canadian citizens can present their TN documentation directly at a U.S. land border or pre-clearance facility and receive a TN admission the same day. This avoids consular appointment wait times entirely and is legally equivalent to a visa stamp for employment purposes.
Business Development Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Business Development Manager role actually qualify for TN visa status?
It depends on how the role is structured. CBP evaluates the actual duties, not just the title. Business Development Manager positions qualify most reliably under the Management Consultant category when the core work involves strategic analysis, client advisory functions, or market evaluation. Roles that are primarily sales-focused with minimal analytical or consulting duties are more likely to face scrutiny or denial at the border.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for Business Development Manager jobs?
TN has a significant practical advantage for Canadian citizens: there's no annual lottery, no cap, and no waiting period. H-1B visa selection is randomized and limited to 85,000 slots per fiscal year, meaning qualified candidates are often excluded entirely. For Business Development Manager roles that fit the Management Consultant category, TN gets you working in weeks rather than years. Mexican citizens face a 5,500-per-year TN cap, which narrows but doesn't eliminate this advantage over H-1B.
What documents does my employer need to prepare for my TN application?
Your employer must produce a support letter on company letterhead that specifies your job title, a detailed description of your duties, the consulting or analytical nature of the role, your anticipated start date, and confirmation that the position is temporary in nature. The letter should also confirm your salary and qualifications. USCIS or CBP may request additional evidence if the duties don't clearly map to a qualifying TN category.
Where can I find Business Development Manager jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters job listings by TN visa sponsorship availability so you're only seeing employers willing to support the process. General job boards mix in listings from employers unfamiliar with TN requirements, which wastes time during offer conversations when the sponsorship question surfaces late.
Can I switch employers on a TN visa if a better Business Development Manager role comes up?
Yes, but you need to start the TN process fresh with the new employer before you begin working for them. Your current TN status is tied to the original employer. Canadian citizens can typically handle this at the port of entry with a new support letter and documentation. Mexican citizens must schedule a new consular appointment. There's no H-1B-style portability that lets you transfer the petition directly.
