Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Clinical Social Work
Verify your licensure meets TN requirements
TN eligibility for Clinical Social Work requires a state-recognized MSW degree and proof of licensure. Confirm your Canadian or Mexican credentials are assessed as equivalent before approaching employers, since licensing boards vary by U.S. state.
Target employers experienced with visa sponsorship
Hospitals, community mental health centers, and VA-affiliated clinics are more likely to sponsor TN workers than private solo practices. Focus on organizations with dedicated HR or immigration teams experienced with work visa sponsorship—they're familiar with the support letter requirements and border/consulate presentation processes that TN clinical roles demand.
Get your offer letter to specify clinical duties precisely
The TN approval depends on your offer letter matching the TN profession list requirements exactly. Ask your employer to describe your duties in clinical terms tied to patient assessment, diagnosis support, or therapeutic intervention, not administrative functions.
Use Migrate Mate to find TN-sponsoring employers
Searching broadly wastes time on employers unfamiliar with TN sponsorship for social work roles. Migrate Mate filters clinical social work positions by TN visa sponsorship, so you reach employers already prepared to support your application.
Understand Mexican nationals need consulate appointment timing
Unlike Canadians who present at a port of entry, Mexican professionals must schedule a U.S. consulate appointment in advance. Build four to eight weeks of lead time into your start date negotiation to account for appointment availability and processing.
Prepare state licensure documentation before filing begins
Some states require you to obtain a social work license before your employer can file TN paperwork. Check your target state's licensing board requirements early, as provisional or compact licenses may not satisfy USCIS standards for TN classification.

Find Clinical Social Work JobsClinical Social Work TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Clinical Social Work qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes. Clinical Social Work is a listed profession under the USMCA TN category. To qualify, you need a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree at minimum, though most U.S. employers and states require a Master of Social Work degree and active licensure. Your job duties must align with clinical social work functions, not primarily administrative or case management work.
How does TN compare to H-1B for clinical social workers?
TN is available annually with no lottery, no cap for Canadians, and no lengthy petition process. H-1B requires employer sponsorship months in advance, entry in a competitive annual lottery, and USCIS adjudication that can take six months or more. For Canadian and Mexican clinical social workers, TN is faster to obtain and easier to renew, making it the practical first choice over H-1B.
Where can I find clinical social work jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists clinical social work positions specifically filtered for TN visa sponsorship, so you're not sorting through employers unfamiliar with the process. Searching by role and visa type surfaces employers who have already indicated willingness to support TN applications, which shortens your outreach cycle significantly.
Can I switch clinical social work employers on a TN visa?
Yes, but your TN status is tied to your current employer. If you change jobs, your new employer must support a new TN application before you begin working. Canadians can obtain the new TN at the border with updated documentation. Mexican nationals need a new consulate appointment. There is no portability provision as there is with H-1B under AC21.
Does my Canadian or Mexican social work license satisfy U.S. state requirements for TN approval?
Not automatically. TN approval requires demonstrating you hold the qualifications for the role, but U.S. state licensure requirements for clinical social work are separate and vary. Some states require you to obtain a state license before starting work, while others allow a provisional credential. You should contact the licensing board in your target state before your employer begins the TN filing process.
