Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as an Information Security Intern
Align your credentials to Computer Systems Analyst
TN sponsorship for security intern roles requires fitting the Computer Systems Analyst category. Your degree in computer science, cybersecurity, or information systems must directly support that classification. A mismatch in your credential documentation is the most common denial trigger.
Target employers enrolled in E-Verify
E-Verify enrollment signals an employer has infrastructure for work authorization compliance. For TN sponsorship, that matters because your employer must be ready to document your status from day one without a lengthy internal approval chain.
Request a detailed offer letter before filing
Your TN application lives or dies on the offer letter. It must specify your job title, duties tied to systems analysis or security functions, start date, and that the position is temporary. A vague letter will prompt a CBP officer to question your classification.
Search TN-specific openings using Migrate Mate
Generic job boards don't filter for TN visa sponsorship history. Migrate Mate surfaces information security intern roles at employers already familiar with TN filings, so you spend less time cold-applying to companies that will stall on your immigration status.
Prepare for port-of-entry review as a Canadian
Canadian citizens can get TN status at a land border or airport without a prior visa appointment. Bring your degree transcripts, the employer's offer letter, and your resume. CBP officers at busy crossings like Buffalo or Detroit handle TN applications daily and move quickly when documentation is complete.
Understand the Mexican TN consulate timeline
Mexican nationals must schedule a consulate interview and cannot self-adjudicate at the border. Build at least six to eight weeks into your start date planning to account for appointment availability and administrative processing at posts like Monterrey or Ciudad Juarez.

Find Information Security Intern JobsInformation Security Intern TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an information security intern role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, if your duties fall under the Computer Systems Analyst category recognized by USCIS and CBP under USMCA. Your responsibilities must involve analyzing security systems, identifying vulnerabilities, or implementing network protections, not purely administrative tasks. The offer letter and your degree transcript are the two documents that establish this fit at the time of filing.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for information security interns?
TN has no lottery and no annual cap for Canadian citizens, making it far more predictable for internship timelines. H-1B requires employer sponsorship months in advance, a registration fee, and lottery selection with no guaranteed outcome. For a fixed-term internship, TN is processed at the port of entry for Canadians, often the same day, while H-1B approval can take months even with premium processing.
Can a Canadian student on a co-op or internship program use the TN visa?
Yes, as long as the role meets the specialty occupation criteria under the Computer Systems Analyst category and you hold a qualifying degree. The TN is for employed professionals, so you need a formal offer letter from a U.S. employer, not a school-arranged unpaid placement. Your internship must be compensated and the employer must be a U.S. entity.
Where can I find information security intern roles that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters openings by TN-compatible roles and surfaces employers with a history of sponsoring international professionals, so you can identify companies already set up for the process instead of guessing from a generic job board. You can search by role, location, and visa type directly.
What happens to my TN status if the internship ends early or I switch employers?
TN status is tied to the specific employer listed on your application. If the internship ends before your authorized period, you lose TN status with that employer and must stop working. Switching to a new employer requires a fresh TN application, either at a port of entry for Canadians or through USCIS for a change of status, before you begin work with the new company.
