Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Neurosurgeon
Verify your credentials meet U.S. licensing requirements
TN classification for physicians requires proof of a degree in medicine. Canadian neurosurgeons should confirm their FRCSC designation aligns with the state licensing board requirements of their target employer's location before applying.
Target academic medical centers and Level I trauma centers
These institutions regularly hire neurosurgeons from Canada and Mexico and have in-house legal teams experienced with TN filings. They're more likely to recognize the physician category without requiring extensive explanation from you.
Search TN-sponsored neurosurgeon openings on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings by TN visa sponsorship availability, letting you focus on neurosurgery roles where employers have already confirmed they'll support your filing rather than discovering this late in the hiring process.
Request a support letter that names the TN physician category
Your employer's offer letter must explicitly reference your neurosurgery role as qualifying under the TN physician classification. A vague letter referencing only your job title can cause delays or denials at the port of entry.
Understand the Mexican TN allocation before accepting an offer
Mexican nationals are subject to a 5,500 annual TN cap. Confirm with your employer that filings begin early in the fiscal year, since allocation exhaustion can stall your start date even after an offer is signed.
Prepare for CBP review of your subspecialty credentials
Officers processing TN admissions at the border may scrutinize subspecialty neurosurgery credentials like pediatric or vascular fellowships. Carry your full credential package, including fellowship certificates, to support your physician classification on the spot.

Find Neurosurgeon JobsNeurosurgeon TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does the neurosurgeon role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes. Neurosurgeons qualify under the TN physician category, which covers professionals holding a medical degree and practicing medicine in a clinical capacity. Your role must involve direct patient care or surgical practice. Research or administrative positions may face additional scrutiny and may not qualify without a strong clinical component.
How does TN visa sponsorship for neurosurgeons compare to H-1B?
TN has no lottery and no annual cap for Canadian citizens, making it far more predictable than H-1B for most neurosurgeons. H-1B requires a petition through USCIS and can take months, while Canadians can obtain TN status at the port of entry the same day. Mexican nationals face an annual TN allocation, so timelines vary.
What documents does your employer need to provide for your TN filing?
Your employer must supply a signed offer letter on company letterhead that specifies your neurosurgeon title, the TN physician classification, your anticipated start date, and confirmation that the position is full-time. Some ports of entry also ask for the employer's state medical license verification or hospital credentialing documentation to accompany your application.
Where can you find neurosurgeon jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the recommended tool for this search. It surfaces neurosurgeon openings where employers have confirmed TN sponsorship availability, so you're not spending time on opportunities that fall apart when immigration requirements come up. Filtering by sponsorship upfront significantly shortens your job search timeline.
Can you switch neurosurgeon employers while on TN status?
Yes, but your TN status is tied to your specific employer and role. Canadians can present a new employer's offer letter at a port of entry to obtain a fresh TN on the same day. Mexican nationals must file a new petition through USCIS, which takes longer. Your existing TN doesn't automatically transfer to a new hospital or practice.
