Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Personal Assistant
Frame your degree as role-specific
TN visa officers look for a direct connection between your credential and the PA role. A business administration or communications degree makes that link explicit; a general arts degree needs supporting documentation showing coursework relevant to executive support functions.
Target employers with dedicated executive teams
Companies with C-suite or senior director structures are most likely to have the internal HR infrastructure to support TN sponsorship for a Personal Assistant role. Professional services firms, investment offices, and large nonprofits are practical starting points.
Search for TN-sponsored PA roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings by visa sponsorship type, so you can find Personal Assistant postings where employers have already committed to supporting TN candidates, rather than cold-pitching companies on the process.
Clarify the specialty occupation question before applying
Not every PA role meets the USCIS specialty occupation standard. Roles that bundle purely administrative tasks with no degree requirement can be flagged. Before applying, confirm the job description explicitly lists a bachelor's degree as required, not preferred.
Prepare a support letter that maps duties to your credential
Ask your prospective employer to draft a support letter detailing how the specific PA duties, such as managing executive communications or coordinating complex projects, require the theoretical knowledge your degree provides. Generic offer letters frequently cause TN denials.
Understand the Canadian vs. Mexican filing difference before your offer
Canadian citizens can finalize TN status at any U.S. land border or airport port of entry the day they start. Mexican citizens must schedule a consular visa appointment first, which can add several weeks. Factor this timeline into your start date negotiation with the employer.
Personal Assistant TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Personal Assistant role actually qualify for a TN visa?
It depends on how the role is defined. TN classification requires the position to meet the specialty occupation standard, meaning a bachelor's degree in a directly related field must be a genuine requirement of the job. A PA role focused on high-level executive coordination, communications management, or project oversight at a degree-required level can qualify. Roles framed purely as scheduling or clerical support typically do not.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for Personal Assistant jobs?
TN has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and no multi-month wait for approval. An eligible Canadian professional can be cleared at a port of entry on day one. H-1B visa requires an April lottery, a six-month wait if selected, and significantly more employer paperwork. For a Personal Assistant role where you already have an offer, TN is a faster and less uncertain path than H-1B.
What documents does my employer need to provide for TN sponsorship?
Your employer needs to provide a detailed support letter on company letterhead. It should state your job title, describe the specific duties requiring your degree, confirm you are their employee, and specify your salary and intended duration of employment. The letter is not filed in advance with USCIS for most Canadians; you present it at the port of entry along with your credentials.
Where can I find Personal Assistant jobs that already support TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters job listings by visa sponsorship type, including TN, so you can identify employers who have already committed to sponsoring TN candidates for Personal Assistant roles rather than approaching companies cold and explaining the process from scratch.
Can a Mexican citizen get TN sponsorship for a Personal Assistant role, and is the process different?
Yes, Mexican citizens can qualify for TN status in Personal Assistant roles under the same specialty occupation standard that applies to Canadians. The key difference is process: Mexican citizens must apply at a U.S. consulate and receive a TN visa stamp before traveling to start work. That consular appointment step can add several weeks to your timeline, so coordinate your start date with your employer accordingly.
