Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Human Resources Specialist
Align your credentials to the TN category
TN eligibility for HR Specialists requires a degree in human resources, business administration, or a closely related field. A general arts degree won't automatically qualify, so confirm your credential maps directly to the role's professional classification before applying.
Target companies with established HR infrastructure
Larger organizations with dedicated HR departments are more familiar with TN documentation requirements. Prioritize employers who already have in-house legal or HR compliance teams, since they're less likely to confuse TN with H-1B sponsorship processes.
Search TN-sponsored HR roles on Migrate Mate
Filter specifically for Human Resources Specialist positions with TN visa sponsorship on Migrate Mate. The platform surfaces employers actively hiring under USMCA categories, so you're not cold-applying to companies unfamiliar with the TN process.
Clarify TN requirements before accepting an offer
Once you have an offer, confirm with your employer whether they'll prepare the TN support letter. For Canadians, the TN is approved at the port of entry, so you'll present the support letter directly to the immigration officer—no advance USCIS filing is required.
Address Mexican TN caps early in negotiations
Mexican nationals face an annual TN allocation of 5,500 and must apply at a U.S. consulate rather than a port of entry. Flag this timeline with your employer during the offer stage so visa appointment scheduling doesn't delay your start date.
Document your HR specialty to avoid RFE risk
Broad HR titles sometimes draw scrutiny if the job duties look more administrative than professional. Prepare a detailed offer letter specifying your professional responsibilities, such as workforce planning, compliance, or employee relations, to match the TN specialty occupation definition.

Find Human Resources Specialist JobsHuman Resources Specialist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Human Resources Specialist role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes, Human Resources Specialists qualify under the USMCA Professional category when the role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in human resources, business administration, or a related field. The job duties must reflect professional-level HR work, such as employee relations, compliance, or workforce planning, rather than general administrative support tasks.
How does the TN visa compare to the H-1B for HR Specialist roles?
The TN visa has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian applicants, making it significantly more accessible than the H-1B for HR Specialists. H-1B applications are subject to the 85,000-slot annual cap and a randomized selection process. Canadian professionals can receive TN approval at a U.S. port of entry the same day, while H-1B petitions require USCIS adjudication that can take months.
What documents does a Canadian HR Specialist need to cross at the border on TN?
You'll need a U.S. job offer letter describing your professional HR duties and confirming a bachelor's degree is required, your original degree or transcripts showing a qualifying field, and your Canadian passport. A CBP officer reviews these at the port of entry. No prior USCIS filing is required for Canadian applicants.
How can I find HR Specialist jobs that explicitly offer TN visa sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search for Human Resources Specialist roles filtered by TN visa sponsorship. Most general job listings don't specify TN readiness, so targeting employers already identified as TN sponsors saves you from lengthy back-and-forth with HR teams who are unfamiliar with the process.
Can a Mexican national on TN change HR employers without restarting the visa process?
Yes, but Mexican TN holders must obtain a new TN approval for each employer change, since TN status is employer-specific. Unlike H-1B portability, there's no AC21-style grace period for TN holders. You'll need to apply at a U.S. consulate in Mexico with documentation from the new employer before starting work there.
