TN Visa Program Assistant Jobs
Program Assistant roles qualify for TN visa sponsorship under the USMCA when the position aligns with a recognized professional category such as Scientific Technician or Management Consultant. Canadian professionals can enter at the port of entry with a support letter from their employer; Mexican nationals require a U.S. consular appointment with the same documentation. Employers prepare a support letter outlining the role's eligibility and job details to initiate sponsorship.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Program Assistant
Match your credentials to the TN category
Program Assistant roles don't map to a single TN category. Identify whether your position qualifies under Scientific Technician, Management Consultant, or another listed occupation, then make sure your degree field explicitly supports that classification in your offer letter.
Request a TN-specific offer letter
Your employer's offer letter must describe your duties, required education, and TN category by name. A generic offer letter will get your application rejected at the port of entry or consulate, so ask HR to address these elements before you travel.
Target employers with recent visa filing experience
Search Migrate Mate to find employers with recent visa filings for professional roles. A track record of visa sponsorship experience signals that a hiring team understands work visa processes before you bring up TN eligibility.
Find TN-sponsoring employers through Migrate Mate
Filter Program Assistant openings by TN visa sponsorship on Migrate Mate to surface employers already set up to hire Canadian and Mexican professionals. This cuts the time spent on outreach to employers unfamiliar with USMCA professional categories.
Prepare your credential documents before the offer stage
Gather official transcripts, degree certificates, and any professional licenses before negotiations conclude. Canadian citizens present these directly to CBP at the border; Mexican nationals submit them as part of their DS-160 package at a U.S. consulate.
Confirm your employer will provide a support letter
The employer prepares a support letter before your TN status is approved, but many smaller employers aren't familiar with this requirement. Confirm during the offer stage that HR or outside counsel will handle the support letter preparation so you aren't delayed when presenting at your port of entry (for Canadians) or U.S. consulate (for Mexicans).

Find Program Assistant JobsProgram Assistant TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Program Assistant role qualify for TN visa status?
It depends on how the position is structured and what TN category it maps to. Program Assistant duties that involve scientific or technical support may qualify under the Scientific Technician category, while coordination or advisory functions could fall under Management Consultant. Your offer letter must clearly tie the role's responsibilities and required degree to a recognized USMCA professional occupation for CBP or a consular officer to approve it.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for Program Assistant positions?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, which means you can start work as soon as CBP approves your application at the port of entry. H-1B selection is capped at 65,000 per year and subject to a random lottery, so approval isn't guaranteed even with a qualifying offer. For Mexican nationals, TN is capped but still avoids the H-1B lottery entirely. TN also renews indefinitely in two-year increments as long as you maintain a qualifying job.
What documents does a Canadian Program Assistant need at the border?
You need a valid Canadian passport, a TN-specific offer letter from your U.S. employer that names the TN category and describes your duties, proof of your qualifying degree or credentials, and payment for the CBP processing fee. You do not need to file anything in advance. CBP adjudicates TN petitions from Canadian citizens on the spot at land borders and international airports, so having your documents organized and complete is the difference between same-day approval and a secondary referral.
How do Mexican Program Assistant professionals apply for TN status?
Mexican nationals can't use the port-of-entry process available to Canadians. You apply for a TN visa at a U.S. consulate in Mexico by completing a DS-160, paying the visa application fee, and attending a consular interview. Your employer will provide a support letter documenting your role, qualifications, and eligibility for TN status under USMCA. The annual allocation for Mexican TN workers is set by USMCA, so apply as early as your job offer allows to avoid delays from annual limits.
How can I find Program Assistant jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking roles with TN visa sponsorship. You can search Program Assistant openings filtered by TN eligibility, which surfaces employers with recent visa filings and experience sponsoring work visas. This is faster than applying broadly and asking each employer whether they sponsor TN, since many hiring teams confuse TN with H-1B or don't know the distinction.
