- Building strong partnerships across technical teams, public safety agencies, and external vendors.
If you’re passionate about engineering excellence and want your work to directly support life-saving services, this role is for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, testing, and deployment of web-based, desktop, and GIS-enabled applications.
- Establish and enforce development governance, including version control, DevOps pipelines, code reviews, and documentation standards.

- Supervise and mentor interns and technical staff, ensuring alignment with best practices and organizational standards.
- Coordinate cross-functional collaboration with internal teams, ECCs, vendors, and public safety partners.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions to improve operational efficiency.
- Develop training materials, documentation, and knowledge-sharing practices for systems and applications.
- Support long-term sustainability through automation, monitoring, and proactive system management.
Who We’re Looking For
Someone who combines deep technical expertise with leadership and vision. The ideal candidate is:
- A systems thinker with strong experience in software architecture and application development.
- A leader who can lead teams, mentor staff, and drive technical excellence.
- A collaborator who can translate complex technical concepts for diverse stakeholders.
- A proactive innovator who continuously evaluates and improves systems and processes.
- A professional motivated by public service, reliability, and innovation in emergency communications.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Computer Science, Geography, or a related field (preferred).
- 5–7 years of professional experience in software development, systems engineering, or application architecture.
- Experience leading or supervising technical staff or development initiatives.
- Experience with GIS-enabled systems or public safety technologies (preferred).
- Relevant technical certifications (GIS, cloud platforms, software development, or project management) are a plus.
Salary Range: Salary starting at $125,000, commensurate with experience.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Principal System Architect
Align your credentials to Engineer category
TN approval for Principal System Architect roles depends on mapping your degree to an engineering or computer science field. A management information systems or electrical engineering credential works. A general business degree typically doesn't, so pull official transcripts early.
Target employers with recent visa filing experience
Prioritize companies with recent visa filings for systems architecture or senior engineering roles. These employers are experienced with visa sponsorship and understand the support letter process required for TN status, so they're less likely to delay at the offer stage.
Get your offer letter to name the USMCA category
Your employer's TN support letter must explicitly state 'Engineer' as the USMCA occupational category and describe your duties in technical terms. A generic offer letter citing your job title alone has caused CBP denials at ports of entry.
Search TN-sponsoring employers through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Principal System Architect openings by employers with recent visa filings and sponsorship experience. That narrows your search to companies familiar with the visa sponsorship process, making it easier to find roles where you can present your qualifications at the port of entry.
Prepare for Mexican nationals' consular timeline
Mexican citizens must schedule a visa interview at a U.S. consulate, unlike Canadians who present at the border. Factor four to eight weeks into your start date negotiation so your employer sets a realistic onboarding window.
Clarify remote work arrangements before CBP review
If the role is fully remote, confirm your employer's headquarters state is listed as the work location on the TN support letter. CBP officers have questioned remote arrangements where the petitioning employer's address and work location differ.

Find Principal System Architect JobsPrincipal System Architect TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Principal System Architect qualify for a TN visa?
Yes, if the role involves engineering-level systems design and your degree is in a relevant field such as computer engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science. The TN visa covers Engineers under USMCA, and Principal System Architect duties typically satisfy that definition. Your employer's support letter must frame the position in technical engineering terms, not general management language.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Principal System Architect roles?
TN has no annual lottery, no annual cap for Canadians, and no multi-month USCIS processing wait. Canadians can receive TN status on the same day at a port of entry. H-1B requires a lottery slot, a minimum six-month advance filing window, and USCIS adjudication. For a Principal System Architect who already has a qualifying engineering degree, TN is a faster and more predictable path.
What documents does my employer need to prepare for TN sponsorship?
Your employer writes a support letter on company letterhead that names the USMCA Engineer category, describes your specific duties in technical terms, states the intended work location, and confirms the employment period. You bring that letter to the port of entry along with your degree credentials and valid passport. No USCIS filing is required for Canadian nationals going through CBP.
Where can I find Principal System Architect jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters job listings by employers with recent visa filings, so you're not cold-applying to companies that will decline at the offer stage. Searching by role and visa type on Migrate Mate surfaces opportunities where the employer already has experience sponsoring work visas and understands the visa process.
Can I renew my TN visa if my Principal System Architect role changes scope?
Yes, but a material change in duties can require a new TN support letter that accurately reflects the updated role. If your title shifts significantly or you move from individual contributor architecture work to a general management function, your employer should issue a revised letter at renewal. USCIS or CBP can deny renewal if the duties no longer align with the Engineer category.
