Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Public Policy Manager
Align your credentials to Social Science
TN classification for Public Policy Managers falls under the Social Science category, which requires a degree in political science, economics, sociology, or a related field. A policy-focused MBA alone may not satisfy the requirement without a relevant undergraduate credential.
Target employers with government affairs teams
Focus your search on corporations with dedicated government relations or public affairs divisions, think tanks, and trade associations. These employers have standing relationships with immigration counsel and understand TN sponsorship for policy professionals better than general corporate HR teams.
Negotiate visa support letter into your offer timeline
Your employer will prepare a support letter to accompany your TN application. If you're Canadian, plan to present this letter at the U.S. border or port of entry. If you're Mexican, your employer will submit the support letter with your application at a U.S. consulate. Build at least ten business days into your start date negotiation to allow time for document preparation and processing before your port-of-entry or consular TN application.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsoring employers
Search for Public Policy Manager roles on Migrate Mate to surface employers with active TN and H-1B sponsorship history. This removes the guesswork of cold-applying to organizations whose HR teams have never navigated TN classification for policy roles.
Prepare a detailed support letter for your interview
Mexican citizens applying at a U.S. consulate should ensure their employer provides a letter specifying your job duties, your degree field, and how the role meets the Social Science occupational category. Vague letters are the most common reason consular officers ask for additional evidence.
Document cross-border policy experience strategically
Canadian and Mexican professionals with experience in USMCA trade policy, binational regulatory affairs, or cross-border government relations should highlight that work explicitly. This experience can differentiate your TN petition when the policy role spans multiple regulatory jurisdictions.

Find Public Policy Manager JobsPublic Policy Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Public Policy Manager role qualify for a TN visa?
Yes, Public Policy Manager positions typically qualify under the TN Social Science category, which covers professionals applying social science principles to policy analysis, regulatory strategy, and legislative affairs. Your degree must be in a recognized social science discipline such as political science, public administration, or economics, and the job duties must reflect that academic foundation.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for Public Policy Manager roles?
TN is significantly more practical for this role. There is no lottery, no annual cap for Canadians, and processing can happen at a U.S. port of entry for Canadian citizens on the day of travel. H-1B selection is random and capped at 85,000 annually. For Mexicans, TN requires a consular appointment but still avoids the H-1B lottery entirely.
What documents does my employer need to provide for TN sponsorship?
Your employer must provide a support letter on company letterhead that identifies your job title, describes your duties, confirms the position is temporary in nature, and connects your role to the Social Science occupational category. For Canadian citizens at the port of entry, this letter is presented directly to a CBP officer along with your degree credentials.
How can I find Public Policy Manager jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for TN visa job seekers, letting you filter Public Policy Manager openings by employers with documented sponsorship history. This matters because many policy roles at corporations and nonprofits are open to TN sponsorship but don't advertise it explicitly in their job postings.
Can I switch employers on a TN visa while working in a Public Policy Manager role?
Yes, but TN status is employer-specific. You cannot start with a new employer until that employer sponsors a new TN on your behalf. Canadian citizens can get a new TN at a U.S. port of entry the day they begin with the new employer. Mexican citizens need to complete a consular appointment first, which requires advance planning around your start date.
