We are seeking a Senior Engineer to operate in a Project Engineer role on a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary development program. This role requires strong systems‑level thinking, broad technical capability, and the ability to coordinate complex engineering efforts across hardware, software, integration, and test!
While deep sensing expertise is not required on day one, the ideal candidate has the technical foundation, curiosity, and systems perspective to quickly grow into the role of a sensing‑focused Project Engineer, owning technical direction and cross‑domain integration for sensing‑driven systems.
You will serve as a technical integrator and leader—driving alignment across teams, leading technical tradeoffs, and ensuring focused execution from concept through delivery.
The day-to-day
Technical Leadership & System Integration
- Act as the Project Engineer for a major development effort, owning system‑level technical coordination across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Define and maintain system architectures, interfaces, and technical requirements, ensuring consistency and traceability.
- Lead technical trade studies and decision‑making across performance, risk, schedule, and cost.
- Grow into ownership of sensing‑related architectures, interfaces, and performance as program needs evolve.
Multidisciplinary Engineering Execution
- Work across hardware, firmware, software, mechanical, and test teams to ensure end‑to‑end system performance.
- Identify and resolve cross‑domain technical issues, particularly at integration and interface boundaries.
- Guide design decisions to support testability, reliability, manufacturability, and scalability.
Path to Sensing Ownership
- Rapidly develop understanding of sensor technologies, data acquisition, and system‑level sensing performance relevant to the program.
- Partner with subject‑matter experts to build depth in sensing systems and eventually assume broader sensing technical leadership.
- Translate sensing‑related behaviors and constraints into clear system requirements and integration strategies.
Program Execution & Technical Planning
- Partner closely with program management to support technical planning, milestone definition, and risk management.
- Provide clear technical feedback to schedules, resourcing, and build/test strategies.
- Track technical readiness and integration maturity across program phases.
Team Coordination & Mentorship
- Coordinate efforts across multiple engineering teams and disciplines in a matrixed environment.
- Mentor engineers in systems thinking and disciplined development practices.
- Serve as a trusted technical point of contact for engineering leadership and customers.
Testing & Validation
- Support definition of system‑level test and validation strategies, including integration and performance testing.
- Assist with root‑cause analysis of complex system issues and guide corrective actions.
- Ensure test results and field data feed back into design improvements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Systems, or related field); Master’s preferred.
- 8-12+ years of demonstrated ability in complex system or product development.
- Proven track record to lead or coordinate multidisciplinary technical efforts.
- Strong systems engineering fundamentals, including requirements, interfaces, and integration.
- Ability to learn new technical domains quickly and operate effectively in ambiguous environments.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to align diverse technical teams.
- Able to travel up to 25% travel domestically.
- Must be able to work out of our office in Carlsbad, CA or Tempe, AZ.
- Able to come into the office 3 days a week; hybrid role.
What will help you on the job
- Prior experience working with sensor‑enabled or data‑driven systems, even if not as a specialist.
- Background in embedded systems, controls, data processing, or system integration.
- Experience operating in a Project Engineer, Lead Engineer, or Technical Lead role.
- Experience delivering products through full product lifecycle.

Match your degree to the product category
TN visa approval for technical sales hinges on demonstrating that your engineering or science degree directly relates to the products you'll represent. A mechanical engineering degree supporting industrial equipment sales is a clean fit. A business degree alone typically won't qualify.
Get your employer to frame the role correctly
Ask your hiring manager to write the offer letter around the technical consultation and specification work, not the revenue targets. CBP officers evaluate whether the position requires specialized technical knowledge, and a sales-first framing can trigger a denial at the port of entry.
Target companies experienced with visa sponsorship
Employers experienced with visa sponsorship understand documentation requirements and move faster. Look for companies with recent visa filings in your field and location—this signals they have established processes for supporting international talent in technical roles like yours.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Searching broadly for technical sales roles wastes time on employers who won't sponsor. Migrate Mate filters jobs by TN visa sponsorship history so you reach hiring managers already familiar with the process before your first conversation.
Prepare a credential package before your CBP interview
Canadian citizens skip the consulate but still face a CBP officer at the border. Bring your degree transcripts, the employer's support letter, and a one-page summary of how your technical background applies to the specific product line you'll represent.
Understand the annual allocation if you hold Mexican citizenship
Mexican TN professionals draw from a 5,500-per-year cap under USMCA. Filing early in the fiscal year reduces the risk of hitting that ceiling. Confirm with your employer that they are accounting for this timeline when setting your expected start date.
Technical Sales Representative TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Technical Sales Representative role actually qualify for a TN visa?
It depends on your degree and how the role is defined. If your employer frames the position around technical consultation, product specification, or application engineering and you hold a qualifying degree in engineering or a related science, the role can qualify under the 'Engineer' or 'Scientific Technician/Technologist' TN category. A pure quota-carrying sales role with no technical specification component is harder to support.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for Technical Sales Representative positions?
For Canadian citizens, TN is almost always faster and more practical. There is no lottery, no annual cap, and a Canadian professional can be approved at the border the same day with the right documents. H-1B visa requires employer sponsorship through a lottery with a March registration window and an October 1 start date. Mexican professionals face a 5,500-per-year TN cap but still avoid the H-1B lottery entirely, making TN the more predictable path for most USMCA nationals.
What documentation does my employer need to provide for my TN application?
Your employer must provide a detailed offer letter on company letterhead that states your job title, a description of technical duties, the specific product or technology area you will cover, your start date, and confirmation that the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant technical field. For TN visa purposes, this letter serves as your primary documentation—no government filing or certification is required before you apply, making the process straightforward and efficient.
How can I find Technical Sales Representative jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most job postings don't explicitly state TN sponsorship availability, which makes broad searching inefficient. Migrate Mate is built specifically for USMCA professionals and surfaces Technical Sales Representative roles at employers with TN visa sponsorship history, so you can focus your outreach on companies that already understand the process rather than educating every hiring manager from scratch.
Can I switch Technical Sales Representative employers while on TN status?
Yes, but you cannot start work with the new employer until your new TN is approved. Canadian citizens can obtain a new TN at the border or a port of entry with the new employer's offer letter and supporting documents. Mexican citizens must apply at a U.S. consulate for a new TN tied to the new employer. There is no grace period for TN holders between employers the way there is for H-1B holders.
