Position Overview
Kiewit is seeking a highly personable, resourceful and action-oriented Training Center Operations Specialist to serve in a senior-level operating role supporting the DFW Craft Training Center.
This position owns the day-to-day operating experience surrounding our training programs. The Training Center Operations Specialist serves as a primary resource for craft learners, visitors, vendors and internal partners and helps ensure the Training Center operates in an organized, welcoming and professional manner.
The role combines learner support, lodging and transportation logistics, vendor management, purchasing, Training Center readiness, first-day onboarding, visitor hosting and routine operational problem resolution.
The successful candidate will be someone people naturally approach when they need help and someone who takes ownership when something needs to be resolved. This person must be comfortable working with craft employees, recruiters, vendors, instructors, support personnel and company leadership while exercising sound judgment about what can be handled independently and what should be escalated.
This is not an instructor, recruiter, HR generalist, facilities technician or administrative coordinator role. Training Center leadership retains responsibility for instruction, training quality and significant learner matters. This position owns the operating environment and small support team around the program.

District Overview
HR Operations is an integral partner and service provider at Kiewit. Human Resources supports the business through areas including recruiting, onboarding, employee services, workforce development, training and development, and other people-focused programs.
The DFW Training Center is focused on preparing craft employees for successful careers on Kiewit projects through structured classroom and hands-on training.
Location
This position will be based onsite at the DFW Training Center in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. This is not a remote or hybrid position.
This role is primarily onsite. On active instructional days, the expected onsite schedule is generally 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. The schedule may flex earlier or later when learner transportation, arrivals/departures, leadership visits, special activities or travel disruptions require coverage. Occasional early, late, weekend or travel-related support is expected when operating needs require it; routine evening/weekend work and continuous on-call coverage are not expected.
Responsibilities
Learner Experience
- Serve as the primary non-instructional resource for craft learners during training.
- Build positive relationships and provide support related to lodging, transportation, meals, and Training Center expectations.
- Maintain visibility with active cohorts, identify concerns, and escalate significant or recurring issues to leadership.
- Support instructors and reinforce expectations in a professional, consistent manner.
Lodging, Transportation & Travel Logistics
- Own learner lodging, transportation, and travel logistics once cohorts are established.
- Coordinate pre-arrival communications, hotel accommodations, shuttle services, arrivals, departures, and schedule changes.
- Serve as the primary contact for hotels, transportation providers, and related vendors.
- Resolve routine issues, manage vendor performance, recommend corrective actions, and escalate significant concerns.
- Remain accountable for the overall learner logistics experience from arrival through departure.
Training Center Readiness
- Ensure classrooms, common areas, visitor spaces, and support facilities remain organized, stocked, and professional.
- Conduct routine facility inspections and address issues proactively.
- Coordinate with facilities, janitorial, security, food-service, and other service providers.
- Maintain operational readiness and follow concerns through to resolution.
Purchasing & Vendor Operations
- Manage routine purchases within delegated authority and established company policies.
- Coordinate supplies, invoices, expense documentation, and recurring operational needs.
- Oversee day-to-day vendor performance and service delivery.
- Identify recurring cost, service, or reliability concerns and recommend operational improvements.
Onboarding, Visitors & Facility Activities
- Own the Training Center portion of the learner onboarding experience.
- Partner with recruiters and HR to ensure a smooth transition from hiring to Training Center arrival.
- Welcome and support learners, visitors, and company leaders.
- Coordinate leadership visits, training events, recruiting activities, and other special programs.
- Professionally represent Training Center leadership and provide operational support during events and facility activities.
Operational Improvement & Leadership
- Execute established operating practices and maintain strong follow-through on unresolved issues.
- Identify service gaps, process inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Help refine procedures, logistics processes, and operational standards as the Training Center grows.
- Provide leadership visibility into recurring issues and support the development of future administrative and operational support functions.
Qualifications
- Approximately 8-12 years of progressively responsible experience in craft training, workforce development, hospitality, operations, learner support, customer service, education, student services, travel, events or another people-intensive operating environment preferred; demonstrated scope and judgment matter more than tenure alone.
- Demonstrated ability to build trust and productive relationships with individuals from varied backgrounds and organizational levels.
- Strong service and hospitality orientation combined with the confidence to establish and reinforce expectations.
- Proven ability to take initiative, solve routine operational problems and follow issues through completion.
- Ability to manage multiple changing priorities in a busy operating environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to details affecting employee and visitor experience.
- Sound judgment and the ability to determine what can be handled independently and what requires leadership involvement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with craft employees, vendors, recruiters, instructors, business personnel and company leadership.
- Ability to professionally represent Training Center leadership.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Teams and Excel.
- Experience with SharePoint, Concur, SAP/P2P, GEP, SuccessFactors or similar enterprise tools preferred.
- Experience with purchasing, vendor coordination, travel logistics, expense processes or related business functions preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish capability preferred but not required.
- Construction industry experience is helpful but not required.
- Prior Human Resources experience is helpful but not required.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, hospitality/tourism, education, Human Resources, communications, operations or a related field preferred. Relevant professional experience may substitute for formal education
