Transportation Project Manager Jobs in Nebraska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a transportation project manager in Nebraska?
Most Nebraska employers require a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or construction management and several years of field or design experience. A Professional Engineer license through the Nebraska State Board of Engineers and Architects strengthens your candidacy considerably and is required for signing off on public infrastructure work. Many candidates also earn a PMP credential along the way. Starting in a project engineer or construction inspector role with the Nebraska Department of Transportation or a civil consulting firm is the most common path into project management.
How much do transportation project managers make in Nebraska?
Transportation project managers in Nebraska earn a median of about $97,380 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $64,320 for the lowest 10% to over $147,110 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire transportation project managers in Nebraska?
Nebraska transportation project manager roles are posted by HDR, Olsson, and Werner and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Nebraska's mix of state agency work, rail infrastructure, and federally funded highway programs creates openings across both public-sector bodies and large engineering consulting firms headquartered in or operating out of Omaha and Lincoln.
Which Nebraska cities have the most transportation project manager jobs?
Omaha, Lincoln, and Bellevue account for the largest share of transportation project manager openings in Nebraska. Omaha drives the most volume as the state's largest metro and home to major rail, logistics, and engineering employers, while Lincoln concentrates state agency and university-related infrastructure work, and smaller markets like Fremont and Grand Island see openings tied to regional highway and freight corridor projects.
Are there remote transportation project manager jobs in Nebraska?
Yes, but they're rare. Transportation project management is fundamentally a field-facing role requiring site visits, contractor coordination, and agency meetings that can't be done remotely. About 8% of transportation project manager openings tied to Nebraska are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those tend to be in early planning, grant writing, or program oversight functions rather than active construction management.
How can I get hired as a transportation project manager in Nebraska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a project engineer or construction inspector role with the Nebraska Department of Transportation, which regularly brings on early-career candidates through its structured development programs at district offices across the state. Large Omaha-based consulting firms also hire project coordinators and field engineers who move into management over time. Earning your Engineer Intern credential through the Nebraska State Board of Engineers and Architects and building field experience on federally funded highway or bridge projects gives your application a concrete edge over candidates without it.
Where can I find and apply to transportation project manager jobs in Nebraska?
You can find and apply to transportation project manager jobs in Nebraska on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your background and location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
