Travel Registered Nurse Jobs in Kentucky: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a travel registered nurse in Kentucky?
You become a travel registered nurse in Kentucky by first holding an active RN license issued by the Kentucky Board of Nursing, or by holding a multistate Compact license if you are licensed in another Compact state. Licensure requires completing an accredited associate or bachelor's nursing program and passing the NCLEX-RN. Most Kentucky travel assignments additionally require at least one year of recent bedside experience in your specialty before a facility will accept you.
How much do travel registered nurses make in Kentucky?
Travel registered nurses in Kentucky earn a median of about $81,040 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $64,170 for the lowest 10% to over $111,750 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire travel registered nurses in Kentucky?
Kentucky travel registered nurse roles are posted by American Traveler, Voyage Health, and Milan Laser Hair Removal and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Kentucky's largest hiring activity is anchored by its major regional health systems, which maintain continuous travel nurse needs to cover staffing gaps across acute care, behavioral health, and long-term care facilities statewide.
Which Kentucky cities have the most travel registered nurse jobs?
Louisville, Bowling Green, and Saint Matthews consistently post the highest concentration of travel registered nurse openings in Kentucky. Louisville drives the most volume as the state's largest metro, home to expansive health systems like Norton Healthcare and Baptist Health, while Lexington's demand is fueled by UK HealthCare and its affiliated academic medical center, and smaller cities near the Ohio border benefit from cross-state hospital networks that draw travelers into rural and suburban facilities.
How can I get hired as a travel registered nurse in Kentucky with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a new graduate residency program at a large Kentucky hospital system before transitioning to travel work. Norton Healthcare and Baptist Health both run structured nurse residency programs in Louisville that place new graduates into supervised clinical rotations. UK HealthCare in Lexington offers similar pathways through its academic medical center. Once you have six to twelve months of unit-specific experience from a residency, Kentucky staffing agencies actively place nurses into shorter travel contracts, and holding a Kentucky Board of Nursing license from the start keeps your options open statewide.
