How do you become a travel registered nurse in South Dakota?
To work as a travel registered nurse in South Dakota, you must hold an active RN license recognized in the state. South Dakota is a Nurse Licensure Compact member, so nurses licensed in other Compact states can practice without obtaining a separate South Dakota license. Licensure is overseen by the South Dakota Board of Nursing. You must also have completed an accredited nursing program and passed the NCLEX-RN before pursuing travel assignments.
How much do travel registered nurses make in South Dakota?
Travel registered nurses in South Dakota earn a median of about $78,060 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $54,040 for the lowest 10% to over $98,220 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire travel registered nurses in South Dakota?
South Dakota travel registered nurse roles are posted by American Traveler, Voyage Health, and Talented Medical Solutions and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Which South Dakota cities have the most travel registered nurse jobs?
Rapid City, Mitchell, and Sioux Falls have the most travel registered nurse openings in South Dakota. Sioux Falls leads because it is home to the state's largest health systems, Sanford and Avera, while Rapid City's Monument Health anchors the western corridor and Aberdeen serves as a regional medical hub for the northeastern part of the state.
How can I get hired as a travel registered nurse in South Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a nurse residency or new-graduate transition program at a major South Dakota health system before moving into travel roles. Sanford Health and Avera Health both run structured new-grad residency programs across their South Dakota facilities.
